Account registration?

Hello,

I´m guessing this is the wrong forum, but since the knowledge database offers no help and the "ask a question" is broken (doesn´t work for me in Firefox nor IE), I´m hoping someone here can help.

I´m trying to activate an account. I got a new account code that is supposed to come with 30 days of game time. The code gets accepted for account creation, however, I still have to enter another gametime code or my credit card information.

So, umm, what the hell?

Am I doing something wrong or is the account creation so messed up that I have to buy a game time code before I can even try the game? I thought that was only the case for the free accounts.

Unfortunately, you have to supply a game code or credit card. This is how they track the account (if you ever have to call for tech support you need this number or you will not get help). You will not be billed and can cancel at the end of 30-days free of charge.

Aye, if you have no intention of paying past 30 days, just enter your CC info, then when the account is activated remove the billing info. At that point you will have 30 days remaining before the account is shut off.

What kinda rip off is that to do business? It´s not a free account, where I would have understood that, it´s a new account that is supposed to have 30 days of gametime in it.

I don´t have a CC and I don´t intend to ask a friend to buy me a gametime code either.

I know that you personally can change nothing, but boy, am I pissed off right now.

The other option you can do is purchase a gift card (visa, master, or amex). These work as well. But to have an account there must be some sort of credit card initially on the account or a game time code. If you do choose this option ensure it has at least $1 on it for it to go through the validation process.

I usually recommend to choose the card you can add money to later on as well. (many banks offer re loadable gift cards) This way you can reload it when you want to and not have to update the card on file.

As always keep the number handy in case you run into any issues. Email and Phone customer support may ask for the number to verify the account holder.

I´ll be damned if I get a CC for an online game, especially for one that seems to be absolutely untrustworthy if you can´t even deliver on a simple statement.

Well, I guess now I´ll never know why a friend is still raving about this game.

It has been this way for about 12 years now... It is common with online games to have scammers use an account with free time to do all sorts of nasty things and once the free time is up they move on. Your credit card/time card is not charged until your 30 days of free time is up and this ensures you play nice during your free time. If not they have real info to use to get in touch with you (not you personally, but the generic "you").

I have to say that I question anyone who is THIS upset over something that is a common practice with a number of online services.

UO is a great game, Mythic is doing a great job, sorry you will not be able to enjoy it like the rest of us.
