Account Hackings

Lately there seems to be a lot of account hacking going around, myself having had my account stripped and characters deleted. Now there have been several accounts on catskills and atlantic that have had the same things happen. Unless EA implements some sort of account revert (like Blizzard does for hacked WoW accounts btw) or security measures to protect against these things happening, they will lose a lot of players.

Any thoughts?

I just got three of my accounts hacked tonight. They made off with some valuable goodies, but thus far it doesn't seem as though they've demolished houses or deleted characters. I know they got into my email and I had a pretty strong password on there. That was the first thing I got locked out of. At first I had no idea why I couldn't get into my email. Then when I figured out I was being hacked, I trying logging into UO to find my passwords had been changed on my main account. I logged in on another and saw they had been through all the characters on my main account. They were switching through other characters. I quickly went and changed the passwords of all my other accounts and thus far they have been untouched.

I paged a GM and got a link to the website. Following the link and following additional links, I tried filling out the form to let EA know I got hacked, but when I submit it says: Fatal Error: Unable to open file.

I hope it was still submitted and I can get my accounts back. Thus far, it doesn't look as though they've deleted characters or demolished any houses, but I'd rather get my accounts back sooner rather than later.

Oh, called Customer Service too and got the, "We're closed right now" message.

I would of made the page "Worded" enough to get a Gm to make me a personal visit. (Takes a few good 50 cent words in there to make them do that tho) & then advise them the Acct is being hacked as we speak & people/chara's are on line now. On the links make sure you use IE, for some reason Firefox doesn't always agree with their crap, and I would call them Today directly.

i got one of my accounts hacked, i have no idea how they managed it,
whoever hacked it changed the contact info on the account also.i hadn't logged into the account in a while but when i tried to i couldn't so i raised a ticket with ea customer support, they didn't even want to know.sending me copy and paste reply's to emails,the one genuine reply i got was asking for the original 16 digit credit card number i used to open the account,but the account was 11 years old,i cant remember my 16 digit credit card number from last year never mind 11 years ago,i never got the account back and as far as im aware the hacker is still running around with millions worth of items in gold. the house that was with the account was also dropped.

so don't expect to much help form EA about it. i think ive in logged twice this month. to my main account because of this it really annoys me that i got hacked and EA does not want to help.

Hmmmm this is making things a lot clearer than before.

Twice in the past week I received an e-mail to my yahoo for a password reset on my G-mail account. As I never requested it, I ignored it the first time. Second time I reset my passwords on both Yahoo and G-mail through their account settings pages. My Yahoo also has had a couple e-mails in the last month saying I requested a list of accounts tied to that Yahoo account.

So take precautions folks. Now would be a great time to spycheck your computers, then change all of your passwords, which you should do regularly.

I dont email anyone associated with UO.
The easiest way to get an email is to become friendly with people and email them. Slowly acquire info.

Its sad. There are people that make it their job doing that.

So what do you do? You cant go around not trusting people but I recommend keeping your main email a secret. Create a useless email via any place that offers them for contacting the UO world/players.

That is keep you email assocaited with passwords a secret.

Note: If you have a strong password, and your email is getting hacked -- most likely a keylogger. I had a friend who made an insanely long strong password for his WoW account, and it kept getting hacked... so I took his PC and had to wipe the whole thing to clear out the keylogger... they are SO invasive.

Here is my suggestion/solution:
FIRST REFORMAT & START OVER (with your recovery disks) if you've been hacked (especially multiple times). SECOND - when you are browsing the internet, checking email, downloading ANYTHING - use SANDBOXIE - it will run those processes in a TEMPORARY layer, so if you accidentally get a keylogger, virus, malware or spyware --- when you finish the session it will delete all the garbage that came in with it. And it will never touch your computer!

NOTE: This will NOT WORK if you already have a keylogger installed! They can still get your password! You need to reformat first! This is a preventative measure, not a reactive measure.
