For the record I hear this person talking bout this person speed hack and that person speed hack and maybe they do but the truth is no matter how fast they think they are going on their screen the game client won't allow you to go faster than the game engine will allow you to go regardless of what you think. Some people are just more computer litterate than others and know how to test their latency and or path to the server and make proper adjustments for optimal speed or low latency.

Most of the people that cry about speed hacking are the very ones with a crap load of porn and trojans on their computer that is actually the reason they have slower speeds. Keep your drive defraged and you registry cleaned and defraged and dont be so download happy to download a program just because it promises you the stars and the moon.

Unless of course you have a decent connection, run CCleaner everyday, virus scan every day, defrag every day, and have a computer more than able to handle UO. Once all of that is taken care of, it's all a matter of skill.. or is it?

I find this to be untrue for OSI shards. On RunUO shards, speedhacking is impossible, but it definitely CAN make a difference on OSI shards.

Most people have a problem with clogging RAM up, because when you install programs you usually just hit NEXT NEXT NEXT and you miss the checkbox that installs yahoo toolbar or some other ******** ****.

Start - Run - Msconfig

Go to services tab, hide microsoft services, and uncheck EVERYTHING except your antivirus services - same with the startup tab. (seriously makes a huge difference - I work at a PC repair shop and see this **** all the time)

Change your resolution to 1024x768, and also change it to 16-bit(Medium) color - instead of the default of 32-bit.

Running the occasional checkdisk will also help with overall performance of your computer.

Start - Run - cmd

the command is "chkdsk /r /f" without quotes, then it will flag a chkdsk upon reboot.

Make sure no other computers on your network are being bandwidth hogs, and after all this, you've done all you can to get the best performance out of your computer for UO.

I wouldn't suggest this unless people know what they are doing. You could all too easily disable something you didn't intend too.

This is a bad idea as well. If you use an LCD monitor you should run the desktop at the monitors native rez or it will look pretty crappy. Most semi-modern video cards will also work much better at 32bpp since that is their native, internal format (same goes for windows too). (Yes, I know the 2D client runs at 16bpp).

And here I am on a 8 year old computer and without a clue. This is one of the many reasonsons i love UO.
I have a crt monitor that is better at warming a cats butt than showing what I want to see
and a computer with the side pannel off because the darn thing overheats.

You are wrong Cheapy. I am the very last person to every cry hack, but there are speed hacks available. Back in beginning AOS there was possibly the most powerful one, now there is a less powerful one, but it still works.
