In spite of the fact that former mayor Toshi, and his supporters Sneaky Pete et al have disappeared from Barter Town and Minoc life goes on there. Branwyn of Errol continues her second term as Governor. It was Sneaky Pete and his mud slinging (based on hearsay) that drove her to abandon her keep at the riverbend. This is quite a story in itself which I shall share elsewhere. Since Bran wanted to live in the town where she serves, she built a modest cottage and in front of it a botanicals shop. The shop sat largely unfurnished and completely unused except for the veranda where public transport portals are in place for the local residents.
Now there were rumors that gargoyle slave trafficking was happening in the locale for a while now, but there was absolutely no evidence for these rumors. However, one day in early Spring when the early flowers were beginning to bloom in the front of the shop Bran spotted a raggedy gargoyle drinking water from the well there. The poor creature then laid down behind the well. Bran went over and saw that this gargoyle was very emaciated and filthy dirty. She left her alone to rest, placing a basket of food next to her so that when she awakened, she could eat and be on her way. Then she returned to her cottage and retired for the night.
Next morning as she was leaving home, she saw the gargoyle come running to her and bowing down before her speaking in a strange tongue. From that moment on, this gargoyle has served her as a companion and aid. But not as a slave since she is perfectly free to leave at any time. Bran set her up in the empty shop, so she has a place to live and to work because it became apparent that she has some excellent crafting skills. But if it isn't enough that we have this "odd couple", it seems a third party has entered the picture. I will tattle about this when I get some more details.
