A veteran reward and an expansion idea?

Hail All,

Since it seems difficult to get new ideas about (useful) veteran rewards, I have one:

What about making a etheral Pegasi, which makes you fly like gargoyles?

(Or mini dragons, bats or similar?)

When I was able to get a polar bear, I almost cried (and not by joy).

I will not put any thoughs about useability other than pure flying, since it could prove too difficult to put attack-ability in such a etheral?!

What do you think.... to be able to fly over water atlast; yes it would be "unfair" for the newcommers, but, wouldnt it be really worth something for a veteran?

(Btw. sorry, if this has been requested before, but I havent seen this idea resently. And there must be better options (ideas), than making etherals "normal").

And about an idea for the next expansion:

What about making a Moutain- or Hill-DWARF race??? Havn't gotten over the choice of the gargoyle race in the newest expansion. If anybody have a link explaining why the gargoyle-race was chosen, please let me know.

Please don´t regard me as an (too) ungrateful follower, but I need to steam a little, and hopefully in a respectful manner ;-)

Best regards

Odins

Gargoyles fit into the Ultima lore.
More so than elves, in fact, but that's as far as I'll go on that ;)

Pegasi... I like the idea of...
But, only as a mount equivalent to gargoyle flying.
I don't like the gargoyle flying restrictions. Not being able to fly over trivial blocking objects makes me a sad panda, but I understand the restrictions and accept them. Flying over water shouldn't happen.

Once you sell your creation to somebody else you lose the right to make Cannon, end of line, so elfs and UFOs are equal in part to Gargys and Meer.

That is strictly true, I'll agree.
However, it's usually in the best interests of the new owner to maintain the integrity of the canon, at least in cases where the canon has some popularity.

yes but the interview where Mr. Garriott infers elfs should not have been part of UO was after he had sold it

True, but I could count the number of Ultima games that had elves in on one hand.
Not sure I have enough fingers for the Ultima games that had gargoyles in.

So, as far as "screen time" goes, Gargoyles are the logical choice.

I love the elves, though, so I'm not complaining that they're in there ;)

look, no one loves gargoyles more than me. but, don't you all think it's about time we had a race of felinoids?

Yeah but regardless of what was done AFTER he sold the game, elves had been removed purposefully from Ultima, the game series that UO belongs to, and those games all still exist, and cannot really be separated from UO. So if they want to just change things willy nilly then why bother continuing to call it ULTIMA online.

And why people want elves and dwarves so bad ill never understand. They are so incredibly boring, and present in pretty much EVERY other game.

I mean dwarves? Really? Oh boy I get to be a short, grumpy, hairy, greedy, inexplicably Scottish, drunk, who lives in a cave. How fantastical. That is one race I NEVER saw the appeal of in any game.

And even if UO were to one day stoop to further d&d/Tolkien plagiarism, I would hope that it would be in the form of Orcs, since they actually have an established and unique Ultima presence, ESPECIALLY in the player created societies in UO.

In closing, say no to dwarves, and hobbits, and drow, and so on...

There are plenty of good UO races to pick from, from the exotic Meer and Juka, or Ophidian and Terathan, to the common part man part animal Lizardman, Ratman, Orc, or even Savages.
