A Request to Mesanna and the Development Team

I would like to request that you stop putting EM Names and Shard Names on Holiday gifts and Event Items. The pixel crack is nice but some of us, especially in the rares collecting community, would like to decorate without having our items have names on them.

This Valentine's Day Gift is a great example. It would have been great to have just "A Bouquet of Roses" as the name.

As for the cards given like for Valentine's and Christmas is understandable. Even having names on some gifts is great for those of us who like to collect full sets of things. But some items that have great graphics are ruined by having (Catskills 2011) etc. added to the end. When I buy furniture for my house IRL I take off the Ikea stickers.

So, please consider removing the long Shard Names and EM and GM Names from items in the future. Thanks!

I don't really shop at Ikea. I was just using that as an example. My taste is more 1950's as in actual 1950's furniture.
Yes, 50's were probably the best and probably the most reliable (as in quality, craftsmanship). Once the 60's hit, style went out the window with all the hippies (my mother would slap me for blaming "hippies").

I like to have the names on there to remember people who have left us...especially the EM's.

What I wouldn't give to have something with EM Fio's name on it. And who here doesn't have something with CatHat...Draconi...Silvani..Leurocian...Ando.....

Who here still has a piece of blessed bacon..and actually remembers the story behind it?

It's the names that make them special...leave them as they are :)

I like the named stuff. It adds to the collect-ability if you ask me. I mean stuff from Elizabella and Malachi have way more meaning to me than say EM Whoever from another shard.... I really like my easter baskets with the EM names on the bunnies... And I treasure my CatHat, Draconi and GrimmOmen items... Collecting the names is half the fun.

I have to ask... How often do you spend your time hovering over the item description of an item? If an item is a cool item, it doesn't matter what it's named at all.

I think it's not only acceptable, but appropriate, that the Devs, GMs, and EMs leave their mark on the game world. The only thing that I would personally request is to stop using GM and EM in the names... but I'm an RPer, and things like GM and EM sort of break immersion in the game. Then, so do huge UO symbols, so there's that. heh

Anyway... keep the names.

What about making it something we can toggle on and off? If you want to see the name you can, if not you hide it. Of course the minute one of these items is offered on a vendor or trade window etc it needs to show the full name to prevent any scams. But a toggle seems like a practical solution to satisfy both sides.

I always liked the full names, mostly because of the reminder of past team members who I think deserve that recognition. But I don't mind a bit of dev time spent on this, because as a RPer there are times when it would be very useful to switch to a more generic name on an object eg as part of a guild quest or storyline. It would have a use beyond simply displaying a rares collection :)

Just my 2gp -

I want to say THANK YOU, for what we got this year. Coming from a shard now that we are lucky if we can get our EM to give us our things, and now it appears that gift complainers are getting things cut back, I am happy with whatever you, Mesanna, the devs and the EM TEAM want to give us. I cannot help but say further thank you for making this valentine's day an event required thing otherwise our EM would not have done anything like at Christmas. Now, I am not going to say which shard I am on just that we have a load of people who are interested and get stood up.

Anyway, please devs, keep it coming however you want to do it cause there are still some of us who love whatever you decide to give us, who do not just throw everything in the trash (I have found a use for every dye tub I got on all accounts believe it or not LOL) and cherish the items because you guys do not have to go through the extra time, effort or hassle of making these, coming up with the ideas, and listening to some of us pancake or complain about it instead of being thankful we even got something in the first place. In fact, due to missing holidays because I cannot always be on for the specific day (missed using cupid's bow AGAIN! cause of RL) I play catch up buying stuff off of vendors who still sell the items vs trashing them so there still is a market for these items as well.

Ever Grateful - cause its THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS PEOPLE,

~ Lady Havoc ~

Is THAT why we didn't get any doodads popping into our backpacks this year? My shard has one EM who has been AWOL for months and another who just derps around doing stuff nobody cares about, and I'll admit I quit paying attention lately.

What about making it something we can toggle on and off?
As sympathetic to weird idiosyncratic concerns as I am, I cannot imagine a world where this is worth five seconds of dev time.

I like IKEA ice cube trays.
What is this the 1980's? Who owns a fridge that doesn't have an automatic ice cube maker? If you raised your hand, you should turn off your UO account, save your money, and buy a 21st century refrigerator.

I just wait for winter and wait for icicles to form on my house and take them down. I put them in my box freezer and stock up for the year. It's better for the enviroment :p hehe Something about those acid rain icicles add a little punch to my koolaid :)

Ice maker ftw :)

Boo on ice trays.

Boo @ naming EM items! I kept my post on topic :)
