A question about trader quests/trade packs.

I'm going to be starting an account soon, and I read that trade packs are a great way to make gold. The two videos I could find on Youtube show it marking you a gold color. They said that was so you could be targeted by other players.

Is that true even in Trammel? I am not really interested in PVP at all but I like the idea of being able to run these quests.

Also, my first character is going to be a archer bard pally fisherman combo. I ran this back in the day and it was great for getting MIBs. But how well would it work doing these trade packs by sea? I hear that monsters spawn and come after you sometimes when on these. So I am trying to plan ahead. I won't be able to play till after the start of the month sadly.

No clue what you mean by turning the gold color.

If you stay in Trammel, you wont get attacked by players.

The trade quests, if that is what you mean, don't make you gold, but the gold goes
into the city treasury from the city you take the quest in.

You do however, have the chance to get crafting materials to use or sell, and the (rarely gotten) guild signs can
be lucrative to sell. The scrolls of transcendence also can sell well if you get the sought after ones.

Here is a link for detailed info on this quest: Traders Quest - UOGuide, the Ultima Online Encyclopedia

The trade quest monsters that spawn at sea when you are transporting a package can be very
dangerous. Back when I was doing that, I had gm hiding on my template and hid the whole
boat ride.

Good Luck!

Now that's an idea. I guess the gold color thing must be a feature of whatever free shard those two videos were taken on.

Now I need to figure out how to fit hiding on my template. It is already full. Archery/tactics/chivalry/focus/musicianship/peacemaking/fishing

Maybe if I drop focus? But I don't know what I'd do for mana. I could drop tactics I guess, I probably wouldn't need it's damage boost with peace making right?

Well if you are set on bard skills for a fisherman, whom am I to say? hehe
but really if you stay hidden during the trade quests at sea and run like the wind
on a mount for the land portion, you will be fine.

Just a suggestion, if you want an archer/fisher who can do pvm monster content when you are
bored of fishing you could go: archery, tactics, anatomy, healing, chivalry, hiding, fishing.

Oh, for the mana part get a bow with mana leech.

I'd encourage you to separate out music and peacemaking as one char, the fishing as another, and then archer as the third.

You can add Magery to the fisherman if you're worried about monsters.

My thoughts for what they are worth,

I love the trade quests, made a bit of coin selling the books and sign and SoTs. But unless you just want to roleplay it out, dont even bother with the spawns that come up, running or killing them makes no diff on your reward-just makes a difference in the amount of gold the cities get when you are completed. if you are sailing, you can usually hide on a boat after a few tries (if human) just tell the tillerman where to go and hide. stand at the rear of the boat, they tend to spawn on you, so that will keep them spawning towards the rear so they wont block your boat movement...just keep on sailin' :) Must remember tho, to disarm, or when they spawn autodefend will reveal you.

Enjoy!

Ok, I mean I am basing this template off of what worked for me back in Mondain's Legacy. But I am totally open to new ideas.

The two main reasons I would take chiv at all is fo healing and the recall. But I could do those with some magery instead if I'm dropping the bard stuff and taking anat and healing. I think humans get an automatic 20 in each skill passively right? I don't remember if that is enough to effectivly recall with a runebook. But I think failure doesn't eat up scrolls so you can retry right?

So I could do Archery/tactics/healing/anat/hiding/fishing/ and maybe magic resist would be good?

I head for the nearest land and run to the city you need. You don't have to kill everything. Id drop healing, You have a mount. Magery is more useful in case you want to move to Treasure Hunting.

So Arch/tact/healing/anat/hide/fishing/magerey? With a bow that has mana leech and spell channeling? How hard are those to find?

You wont need spell channeling bow. "Equip last weapon" works. The Mobs are easy to kill. Ive had my rowboat full of orcs and stuff. Looks Pretty funny. Hiding would keep you safe till you get to land. You don't need healing since you have potions and magery. Teleport lets you pop off the boat next to most land. Just RUN through a few and see what you want to kill anther trip.

So how does this sound? Archery/tact/magerey/eval int/fishing/hiding/ and the last skill stealth or meditation?

If you do trade runs in fel you will "turn orange", and you can be attacked by other players. In Trammel that will not happen.

You can use the moongates, handy to get to islands if you decide not to sail, but the reward will be reduced.

A few hints:

You can get to the following cities totally on land, from other mainland cities. Typically, it's best if you are going to be running them regularly, to be a citizen of one of them.
  • Britain
  • Yew
  • Minoc
  • Vesper
  • Trinsic
As a result, you don't get a reward reduction for going completely overland. Britain is probably the most convenient, being centrally located (but as one of the Governors of Britain, I may be a bit biased).

The following cities can be easily reached by Rowboat, if you have the High Seas pack, and the spawn that can appear while using the Rowboat are overland spawn (instead of the sea spawn).
  • Skara (go to the ferry, which won't work for you - place Rowboat, cross, and you're a screen from the dropoff)
  • Jhelom (go to the beach south of the Delucia Passage entrance, place Rowboat, and go SW. Takes about 1-2 minutes to cross).

The last two cities require either taking a ship, or using the moongate system for a lesser reward. Frankly, I go the moongate route because I don't feel like sailing my ship BACK to my home port every time, because I keep stuff in my hold that prevents me packing up my Britannian Ship after every freaking delivery (and I don't like the sea spawn, either).
  • Moonglow
  • New Magincia

The quests increase similarly to the High Seas fishing quests (only a lot less buggy). I currently get 5-part quests, and one of my quests Tuesday paid out 180 Valorite granite. I've also gotten too many pinks to count, 2 signs, and 4 of the books.

Thanks a lot Basara. I didn't know you could become a citizen of particular cities now. The game has changed so much. I'm way hyped.

Knowing that, I'll probably skip putting hiding on my template then. I am excited to be an archer mage though. So I think my template will be archery, tactics, magery, eval, meditation, fishing and uh... maybe spell weaving? Or I could save the last slot for power scrolls.

Read up on the City Trade Orders, there are several little nuances you will need to know, i.e. don't go through Moongates while on orders or you have no chance at the signs or other nice stuff.

You actually can sail a rowboat across the sea, seems like it takes forever but you don't get those big bad evil sea monsters, you only get the land monsters who are a pretty easy kill. However I sail an orc ship on my trade order archer and he does fine on the sea monsters, you just have to be a skilled boat captain and have a good reptile/snake bow which will also kill the water eles along with the krakens, sea monsters and deep sea monsters. I believe you can also refuse or cancel the orders involving sea travel but not sure about that, someone should know that answer, I don't cause I never refuse/cancel an order and consider myself to be fairly experienced at this (I have over 50 signs so far).

I've found sailing just not worth the time for trade quests. You can use moongates just for the islands and still have a chance at pink scrolls and don't use moongates when you can walk and come out ahead in the long run - and has been said, you don't need hiding for trade quests with magery or invisibility potions

Another perspective, I originate the quest in a city that has a governor that has a deal running. It benefits them which benefits the citizens of those cities. Every week it costs 2 million gold to have a deal. For small shards, like Baja, that can really help.

Unless I read your post wrong, the "gold color" is when you tag something as a quest item. In the trader quests, you don't have to do that, just click the container and use the context menu , or drop them manually into the container.
