A More Friendly UO

The top player-unfriendly feature in UO is the resists of armors/weapons/jewlries.

I suspect many players are crazy about matching the resists when ever they change one piece of armor in their suit. The hassle can be greatly reduced by rounding all resists in a increment of 5 (5, 10, 15...) on each elemental resists. Or, even better, take an average of total resists and evenly distributed across all resists (so a piece of armor with 15/12/9/11/13 in resists will be changed to 12/12/12/12/12). The arties with speical will still be useful to beef up particluar resists. This way, players will only need to take care of one elemental resist plus certain extra ones when they put together their suits.

By the same token, most of other mods (HCI, DCI, HLA, HLD, DI, SSI, Hit Spells/area, HML, HSL, HLL, etc.) on the Jewlries, weapon and armors should have increment of 5%. Just looking at the number of magic effects on the items gives me headache.

Thirdly, there are too many meaningless numbers on items' mods. Such as HML, HLL, SSI and DI. Those % are just some raw data that need to be further processed to derive any thing meaningful. IMO, HML and HLL should be changed to Hit Mana/Life Leech range and give out a range of the leeches, which are really all they are about. The Swing Speed should take into account of Swing Speed Increase on the same weapon. The Damage Range should take into account of Damage Increase on the same weapon. This way, SSI and DI can be removed from all weapons. Players will be able to swing faster and do more damage by equiping other items (armors, jewlries, talisman, etc.). The result? Comparison of the weapons will be a lot easier.

Finally, a lot of us are eye candy lovers. Please for god sake, put a text under the name of the item to help us identify the color and hue, just like the original tokuno pigments. Ironically, the items with nearly indistinguishable colors and hues have no id. Think about the ML hair dyes, the holiday bells, tokuno pigments with coal colors, the stuffy animals... just name a few.

There must be a lot of other features need to be made more friendly. Dedicate a publish or two to implement them. The value added to the game through these publishes will be much higher than a full expansion. If a game is not player friendly, the more content it adds, the messier it is.

I was with you up until the eye candy thing. All colours should be reverted to the ingot colours and no more neon crap in the game. :p

then there'd only be 9 colors in the game. that would suck.

I like the pretty colors. Must be from my college days I suppose.

I also found 3rd grade math to be pretty easy and comprehending the intricacies of the properties systems isn't exactly rocket surgery. I take it you don't play any other games of the fantasy genre created in the last 10-15 years either huh?

But then they can't claim that UO features millions and millions of different weapons and armor...

!

So having 2% hit mana leech on a weapon makes sense?

...

The current system is anything but coherently put together.

Having less than 200k players and "millions and millions of different weapons and armor" doesn't seem to be too flattering. As a matter of fact, there is a reverse corelation between number of players and number of items in game over the last few years.

I never said the system was good. It's not hard to understand though.
