7 X PvM Caster Viable?

I would like some input on a very simple template. I however have some misgivings since it does not have Magic Resist and I maybe spreading the skills to thin.

720 points total

110 Spellweaving - Word of Death
100 Myst - Mainly for colossus and healing stone
100 Focus
105 Necro - Wraith form and withering
100 SS
105 Magery - Frag with Slayer books
100 Eval

I will be using a SDI based suit with imbued casting Jewels with SDI and + skill to flush it out a bit.

well first of any monster pvm is able to be done with any sort of skill set up. a monster wont chase you a screen away so you can simply run and come back as for no magic resist i would drop spell weaving. i do think your spreading you template thin but hey its your game lol. i used to run a necro mage for pvm and i whooped butt but if you dont wanna spend the moeny on scrolls then just put the last 100 points in weaving. TYR

What are you going to use for tanking? With 105 magery and 100 mystic, you're going to have a hard time casting EVs or Rising Colossus.

I 'spose it's viable, but I think that there are better templates.

If you had the crystalline ring that would bump your focus and magery to 120, and by dropping necro, magery, and spellweaving to GM you could bump myst to 120.

That's true. But in that case, with GM necro and weaving, he'd have trouble WODing and I think also withering. I know you can still fail WOD occasionally at 110 and I think you need 105 necro to 100% wither, no?

I haven't had any problems withering at GM necro, and I think 100% WOD is at around 118. I usually go with a level 6 focus and do essance of wind over wither to knock out smaller spawn faster. I was just going for max strength for myst spells by getting 120/120. I guess the other option with the crystalline ring would be to keep the template as is and just take magery to 85 to the 105 mark with the ring and then use the extra 20 for myst.

Mystic needs to be 120 to be effective. Espeically pvp wise, it is a resist based skill and 95% of people who run resist spell run 120. Also the duration and success of a gm RC summon is a lot less then that of a 120. Also your healing stone is lower as well as you can't spelltrigger cleansing winds/bombard.
100% to wither is gm necro, 105 is 100% on strangle. Generally speaking it is 40 skill over minimum to never fail, in which case wither is 60 and strangle is 65, resulting in the above.

I have posted this template a few times this morning, i think its the best necro/myst/mage option around.

120 mage
120 eval
120 resist
100(120) focus
120 myst
80-100 med
40-60 necro
(crystalline ring, for focus and mage weapon pen)
There is a lot of play with items here as well to boost you skills up more. Now obviously the necro is almost worthless other then for wraith. But as mystic is subject to slayer you can deal a ton of damage with hailstorm and leech enough to do it forever. Mage weapon for pvp defense and while faced with a pvp sitation you are a 6x120 myst mage w/ a little necro to help vs no resist toons, as well as a pain spike finisher. So its still got the kick of a pvp mystic mage but takes care of that huge flaw mystics have for spawns/pvm, while keeping 120 resist. If resist isnt a big deal then i say try weaving out on it, however remember weaving isn't slayer so switch to the sdi book when u start WoD.

PvP, you can live without resist, but you'll have to stock pots, trap boxes, apples. Definitely nicer to have it. If you use it, you need to aim for 120, as other PvPers will be running 120 eval.

For PvM, resist isn't typically needed in my view. Bring a single crate and a couple apples and you'll be fine. Then again, some folks prefer to have 100 resist on their sampires to counteract mana drain, because mana is a sampire's lifeblood. Similarly, Connor's ABC archer template is a popular build and it has 115 resist.
