Building your Fire Steed Slots 2 through 5

First points allocation: Slot 2 => 3
Have you even trained a fire steed before? :p

I would never begin a fire steed that way. Ever.

Fire Steeds are one of the lowest intensity animals ever, depending on the base intensity and preferred build you will run out of training points before you finish.

Fire Steeds are always 2 slot, a 100% spawn would still be ~1300 intensity from becoming a 3-slot pet. Fire Steeds could use a base stat bump to make them easier to build compared to other pets, but they are still capable of various builds as they are now, you may just need to make sacrifices somewhere.

I would not recommend putting full regens right away until you know what spec you want and build it in a planner to see how it will end up. 20 HPR is expensive, and often you need to settle with 10 HPR to make a build work.

People often severely underestimate the usefulness of Intelligence in regard to mana regeneration. 370 Int and 24 MR will give you the same mana regeneration as 300 Int and 30 MR, but for 37 less intensity. To go further, 260 Int and 30 MR is the same mana regeneration as 370 int and 20 MR, at a savings of 65 intensity. We always recommend 370 intelligence whenever possible for better mana regeneration, but if you have a tight build, you can save a bit of intensity and not lose mana efficiency by doing higher int and lower MR, particularly if you weren't going to put anything into Int to save intensity anyways.

I'm personally not a fan of training guides that are just step-by-step instructions for making a pet. I feel it doesn't educate the player on why they are making these decisions. Even if it's been said elsewhere in another thread, or another guide, re-iterating why certain decisions are being done can help reinforce that information and educate players.

For example, when saying "Put Dexterity to 150", a quick blurb about "This is to maximize the pet's run speed, as Dexterity directly affects this.". This is common information to a lot of us, but some people may not know the reasoning for this.

There are a few hard truths about pet training that I would always recommend people follow, but I try to leave the rest up to personal preference. You always want 150 Stamina and max base damage. Those are the 2 most important things you can give your pet, and if they are lacking in either one, they will be severely gimped. 150 Dex I would consider highly recommended, but still optional. The slower move speed can be annoying, but it won't lose combat efficiency unless it is constantly trying to chase a paragon or something.

Regens are nice and you typically want as many as the template can afford, but doing them first can often lead to not enough points in the final build unless you plan ahead.

For example, this is a perfectly capable Chiv/Ai Fire Steed build based off a 60% fire steed:

If you wanted more Hits (which I don't feel is necessary, but some people don't want pets with under 600-700 hits for whatever reason), you would have to pull from regens or scrolls, etc.

This one especially caught my attention because I don't want to train a fire beetle and I have 2 fire steeds (Origin and Siege) That I want to train so this thread is helping a lot, thank you!

IOHO it would be better not to delete this whole thread, cause precisely your discussions with the K's make this a valuable thread in making people think about all these steps. Pity to see that go lost. We very much agree with them that it would be good to add WHY's, not just what to do/add.
Thanks again to all of you for all the work you do. :)

For my .02, I had trouble finding info on training these. Anything that gets the conversation going is a good thing in my book!

better not to delete this whole thread,
Thanks but I want to cleaner thread at the beginning. I have my finished product. :)
And some parts will stay. I love to gloat.

Lets recap:
I went to Fire to get a Fire Steed.
I Tamed the first one I saw and proceeded to train it unbonded.
I put points on that includes all the necessities and many bells and whistles
I noticed it was not a great amount of points
Kept building
After it was done with all but the last level I found out it was a defective pet
It had lower starting stats than any Fire Steed that has ever existed in UO.
I used my patent pending method to build the worst Fire Steed ever imagined
It has AI and Chivalry
It could kill stuff
(the over 100 resist skill saves 4 points)

The finished product with all 120 scrolls:

I was making it for my Tamer/Archer so he would only get 110 scrolls. 120 Chiv
So if that is as low as a Fire Steed can go, My toon will like his new pet.
Allen hogs the good scrolls.

And here is the all 115 scroll version 120 chiv

Not sure if the problem is with us, but we can only seem to reach the HPR section, the others we see mentioned as updated in March last year, but no link or such? How to reach those? BTW, we thought the HPR part interesting, in a way logical, but we hadn't looked at it like that so certainly an eye-opener! Thanks!

Edit: Never mind! Found them in the drop down menu! :)

Thank you for the info. We'll have @Khyro look at the links. Majority of those were early additions to the website. We are putting up some other articles we've had half written for the past 9 months or so. Hope everyone finds them useful and/or informative.

This thread has been cleaned up a bit and some posts have been removed. Please keep the discussion about the pet itself and not insulting other posters skill at training pets with personal attacks. Also keep in mind that just adding an emoji at the end of an insult doesn't make it count as less of an insult. This applies to Pawain's new thread regarding this topic whenever he makes it as well. Thanks.

Then that should be in the title. Care to show me where the OP says that.
I deleted all the references. They were there... Sorry But find it here: Fire Steed
I somehow found and tamed a Steed that had such horrible stats that it should not exist in UO.
I could not leave all the pics of it in the thread since it is a pet that does not exist. So I made a new thread.

So if the guide could make that into a viable AI/Chiv build then any Steed will do. But as stated in all the words I added I reccommend a 70% or above so you get all the bells and whistles and better HP.

Same building guide but I threw in a bunch of words to appease the mob. I think the extra crap will just cause confusion. Lurkers want the steps they dont need to be told what Hit Points are in every thread.

Eventually Ill delete the stuff in the first post and hope this falls to the bottom.
