Hello everyone. I haven't played UO in many years, but, like most people, it has never left my mind, not completely. Not long ago I started using Google Sketchup, a 3D modeling program. And I was searching for ideas to help me learn it and my brain went straight to UO art. I remembered those 3D renditions of the small house and the small stone workshop on the Stratics main page, so I figured I would attempt something like that.
So here is my first finished project, the Small Marble Workshop.
A few notes:
- I would have liked to have used the textures straight from UO, but when you apply them to a full sized wall, the pixels loom large and there is no actual texture left. So I used whatever photos that seemed worthy.
- The scale is 2.5 ft per tile, so this particular model has an 18 ft. x 18 ft. base and each floor is 10 feet high. If the height seems a little off, I excused that by the fact that if people are going to regularly charge horses into the building, there must be some headroom!
- Some of the details are lost, such as the trim around the top and bottom. The UO art seems to have a kind of "rope-work" look to it. I did manage to get that texture on one side when I was making the walls, but I then realized that if I did that to all of them, it would take extremely wrong, so I went with a solid curve instead. So please, any purists, please forgive me.
Eventually, I would like to be able to actually put deco inside of the houses, and I have managed to make a regular deed, a powerscroll, a yew-wood table, a writing table, and a water trough, but that is all. So maybe in the future.
So, here are the links to the photos of it. I would have liked to post them directly into the thread, but I couldn't manage to get the files down to the minimum stated by the RoC and still have them realistically viewable.

Coming up next is a Sandstone Patio house, which, hopefully, will be done in the next few days.
