2d UO install wizard just crashes

Having a few problems reinstalling UO 2d client.

When i try to install, the installshield wizard gets to half a bar goes non responding and closes.

I had UO 2d client working fine a couple of weeks ago, the previous install went fine, i must have installed and reinstalled UO 6 or 7 times on this machine without a hitch.

Theres no error messages, im running vista with admin permissions.
I installed "The Witcher" game today not a problem, reinstalled COD4 just to make sure, that went fine.

Ive tried to install UO 2d client from 8th age discs and 9th age discs, still get the same problem, i downloaded a copy of the ML 2d client that wont work either.

so basically, any other game i have will install no problem yet UO from disc and from download crashes with half a green bar on the installshield wizard.

This is totally puzzling me, UO seems the only program that wont install.
If all else fails im going to reformat.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Well perhaps during the installation specify a different directory for it to install to instead of accepting the default, this usually fixes issues where a game still has issue running after it would complete the install, as it might have a bad file it wasnt overwriting or bad info in the registry keys. By moving to a new directory your pc would think of it as a new game installation just need to use the correct startup icon on your desktop that points to the new install directory.

Sounds like you should already know how to move your chars data files if you have installed UO many times previously

I dont get any option to specify directory, the install wizard just boots up and starts.

The install wizard crashes on the preparing set up. less than 30 seconds into the install.

Well at this point I think its going to be how computer savvy and how confortable you feel.

A> un-install UO (if option is available in windows uninstall)

or

B> delete UO directories off hard drive, go into regedit (strongly suggest making backup prior to making changes), do a search on UO and delete any registry keys that have to do with UO (verify that it looks like it might have something to do with UO and not just be a word with uo in it)

Then retry install, good luck

does it do the DirectX part of the install? Or does it crash before that?
