2d client fubared since upgrading to Windows 7

My client did this once before and I uninstalled it and it seems to be acting up again.

What happens is this:

My animations get caught mid loop.

For example, if I cast heal my character stays in the bowing down motion until I move.

If I kill an animal the body stays standing up.

Any ideas how to fix this? Wasn't happening with Vista, and I've tried running compatibility with XP, Windows 2000, and Vista.

Thanks.

I've had this happen with other versions of windows. In fact, it's doing it on my laptop as we speak. The fix was always to reboot the computer. Have you tried that yet?

if you can run windows 7, then stop using the 2D client. use the enhanced client. problem solved.

This has been happening on my newer computer for about 1-2 weeks or so. I can´t remember installing anything though to make it happen.

Will try rebooting it manually and see what happens...

EDIT: I run Vista on that machine.

Eh not worth arguing.

I use enhanced client alot. However, when pvping I Have to use classic client. Just how it goes. Maybe once alliance switches over to cartographer, and the enhanced client stops lagging out after 1 hour of playing.

Just so ya know though, I started playing ultima on the Kingdom Reborn client. Therefore the enhanced client is my default client. Just too laggy right now when pvping.

The same thing happened to me as well using windows XP. I rebooted my machine and everything was fine. The weird part was that I could run away by two screens and then the corpse was on the ground after it was "frozen" when I killed it.

The "stuck" graphics in the Classic Client is probably caused by a screen refresh issue between the game and the OS. Not sure of all the low level [programming] involved, but when our business software has issues with it it is because the program's cache is too full so we reboot the system.

The cache for the program needs to be handled and dumped in a better way... its been happening with me lately with spell casting and when there are MANY mobs on a screen as I go hunting. I've set my computer's cache memory higher, but that is risky as it sucks resources from other system operations (like OS). I am still running XP on my older computer that hasn't had ANY problems running UO until the SA upgrade - and all I play is Classic....

Thanks Kirthag. I think I need to go into my nvidia control panel and have it auto match the screen refresh rate. See how that works.

I bought a new laptop with a serious video card in July with Vista on it. EC played like crap. I waited for the release of 7 and upgraded to it. Put both clients on it and can play both, but both had lag. I didn't have the problems with the CC on my older XP laptop. After trying s few graphics settings changes with little improvement it left me scratching my head.

This past weekend I set about trying to find my issue. I think I nailed it. When I did the 7 upgrade I was utilizing the built in touchpad. When playing UO I use a wireless Logitech mouse. Most of my issues seemed mouse related. I realized I had not updated those drivers. I did so, and it improved, some. Convinced I was onto something, I purchased a MS 4000 wireless mouse, 7 ready, and it has improved dramatically.

Long story, I know, but old moral, check and double check you have all the latest drivers for all your hardware.

Agreed, when you are using a new machine/hardware (like mouse or keyboard)! However I haven't really upgraded anything on my box but RAM... and even with a RAM upgrade I am getting frozen graphics. Particulary..

--goblin spells in underworld & abyss (sparkles hanging around still)
--gargoyle movement (clipped wings are strewn everywhere my gargoyle flies!)
--house rebuilding (have to delete some walls/floor tiles, log out, restart UO and log back in before they REALLY disappear from my client and I can build new walls or change the walls)
--mob slaying (the more the worse it gets - have to use handles to loot them as they stack and will not flip... or more worse, they stay standing on top of each other but they ARE dead!)
--persistent mount trail with hiryu

I know it is only my client not refreshing right for other people do not see what I am seeing... but they are experiencing similar in the CC with "delayed graphic refresh" which affects movement, looting and confuses people (I heard the death throes of that orc, but he's still standing there and I cannot attack him!)

I'll remember to take screenies tonight when I get home of some of this stuff....

Can I ask a, possibly silly, question?

I recently updated our info on uo.cfg. One of the items in it is:
CacheSize=[#] Sets the size of a UO only hard drive cache in megabytes. Although the default setting on this is 25 the recommended setting is 1024 or 2x your RAM MB), whichever is the smaller.
What is your set at? And would this setting help?

You know Petra... I didn't even bother looking at that file! lol... [der! and I call myself a programmer!]

But the question does hang still... what changed in UO to cause this to be an issue? Reason I ask is that I've had UO installed for years, upgraded to SA and ran fine since September last, and this issue has only sprung up [for me] in the past few weeks.

I'll check out the file later on when I get home (Hawaii, eh?) and post in this thread.

Who knows, might help others as well. ^.^
