also, what are the benefits of using a soulstone? I know it holds a skill, but how do you folks use that? I'm trying to decide if I should choose a red soulstone as my first year vet reward. any thoughts?

Heritage tokens were a reward a few years back. I don't remember exactly what for. I think you can only get them from buying existing ones. Once you use it it disappears. check out Heritage Token - UOGuide, the Ultima Online encyclopedia.

As for soul stones. I have many of them. Even with 7 characters I don't have enough skill slots. I transfer skills between characters to change up a template. It's also nice not to have to redo certain skills on a character. Long ago, I had 3 templates with GM Magery. My pure mage had it, my THunder had it and my Tamer also had GM magery. Same went for Resisting Spells and there were other skills I had to duplicate to get the templates I wanted. Now I don't need to waist the time GMing the same skills.

thank you for the info, very helpful!

so, as an example: if I wanted to trade 100 skill points in resisting spells for 100 skill points in spellweaving, just to see if I like SW, I could put the resist spells on a red soulstone, and then have 100 points available on my template to train spellweaving (or whatever skill I want)? and I could swap the 2 unlimited times? do I have this right?

also, can only one skill be added to a soulstone at a time or is it capped at a certain skill point total?

Soulstones will store the skill to what ever it is trainable too. The catch to do what you want to do is this. You need to have two stones to swap skills. One to hold the skill you want. One to hold the skill your taking off. You cannot transfer skill to a character that does not have the room to accept the skill. In other words, if you want to put on gm magery you need to have room for the 100 points. Also any Skills over gm will also have to have the appropriate power scroll used on the receiving character,

ahh, so if I put 100 skill points on a soulstone, train up another until my skill total is 700, I'll need 2 soulstones to swap the two. doh!

Or you can just create a storage character to store currently unused skills.

Transfer 100 Resist Spells off main to soulstone.
Transfer from soulstone to storage character.
Take 100 Magery from storage character.
Transfer from soulstone to main character.

One other important note regarding skills and soulstones. If your taking on a skill and your not swapping off points (replacing the points to another skill) Make sure all skills that you want to keep are locked or in the up position. because it does not automatically take the points from where you want it too. and in most cases will take it from the skill you most wanted to keep and is the hardest one to train. Nothing hurts more when you see the skill transferred and you see your other skill drop in the same moment.
