2 or 3 Slot Nightmare

What is the big difference between getting a 2 slot nightmare and getting a 3 slot nightmare? Don't they both have the same amount of points to use when training?
I don't currently have a nightmare yet. I just don't understand the big difference in price for the nightmares.

Each training stage has 1501 points to place.
They have just a little more intensity at 3 slots. No where near 1501 points worth tho. So the 3 slot ones will have a lesser build.
