I just don't quite understand this...
There's already a craftable ([replica]) one that requires recharging (albeit only up to a maximum of 45 charges), wouldn't it make more sense for the UO-Store one to function like a regular stable, i.e. without having us go through the trouble of kraken hunting (for rope) every 30 uses?

If I still have to run to the stable after all, perhaps it's better for me to have spent the $7.25 somewhere else.

Just my thoughts.

The "replica" has some charges but over 45 it's useless. You have have to craft another reolica, not only charges.
The "normal" hitching post has "endless" charges. I mean that every 30 charges you have to recharge it, but you can make it ever and ever and ever :)
Hope to explain well :)

I have one I bought. I mostly just use it for stabling my pet because it does n't use any charges for stalling and saves me a trip when going home and logging for the night :)

Ivory Norwind:
That I understand, but then if spending $7.25 doesn't stop me from farming for rope (and blame it on my RL luck or my RNG... it takes forever), I don't know why I shouldn't just use the simple replica one, or take an extra trip and use a regular stable.

Zooithion:
See wouldn't that be the same as using a replica one? And the replica doesn't cost you any RL money.

Yep, also if "farming" a rope it's a too much thing ;)
But with a replica when you reach 45 charges you have to buy (or crafting) another replica ( also farming for rope). And you need "animal feromage, hitching rope and a Phillip's Wooden Steed. Then you have to farming rope more then that the normal hitching post. The normal one works, forever, without crafting another one. You have to recharge, it's ok, but to craft a replica you need some items very rare. And it's quite bored and expensive. And you need ropes more then a normal hitching post.
The replica and the normal one are the same, the only difference is the recharge.
If you see the items that needs to recharge replica i'm sure that you'll choose the normal one, also if it's a little expensive in RM :)

Whinemaker, but why don't you go to a stable?
So you spend no money and you don't farm no rope

Because it was poorly thought out from the start. The Asian shards got first go at these items.

In my opinion the replica's were hastily put in to silence the jun horde of crazed pixel addicts screaming wft, where is mine...me too:p

Well, i buy very few items. But normally replicas are the very worst items that you can find in game.
I know that they cost less than a "real" item, but they are not so good as the real item :)
It's my opinion ;)

Ive never failed to get a rope whenever ive fought a kraken or leviathan... so whats the problem?

I was going to respond to Ivory Norwind's post but I guess everything now makes a lot more sense after Wilde1's experiment. At first I didn't know the replica actually consumes a charge even for stabling, I thought it would function exactly like the "real" one and therefore my view was that it'd be quite pointless to purchase one from the UO Store (because I thought you'd at least still be able to stall your pets when either version ran out of charges).

Problem solved now. Thank you all.

The problem is I don't have your luck... killed a lot of Krakens in Shame last night (picked up around 35,000gp so I guess I whacked about 100 of them), no drop.

Hmm, have you tried fishing them up??

I dont farm them as i say, but the few ive killed have all been fished up, could it be that they spawn more on those?

That's quite possible... I haven't gone fishing for 7-8 years but I guess I don't have a choice if I want to recharge my post, do I... (urgh, screw shopping in Luna)

Thanks!

Y'know the hitching post does it allow you to reclaim your pet when you relog in with the same character? I don't understand how it's that useful otherwise seeing as any pets you have with you when you log out in your house (apart from pet's loaded with items in there packs) auto log with you ? x

Give an inch, want a mile. If you didn't know what you were buying before you spent your money, that's on you. CAVEAT EMPTOR

On a lighter note, maybe there's a market for all those ropes I've accumulated over the last 3 years.

You can stable animals for free and use a pet summoning ball to pull them out. Farming solen is easier than farming kraken and fire rabbits.

Oh, I didn't know the summoning ball works that way... I vaguely remember you used to have to have the pet outside of the stable before using the ball... maybe they've changed it then.

Will give it a try. Cheers.

Kraken spawn in the water on the 2nd level of Shame. No need to fish for the ropes.

I've killed a lot of kraken in Shame (hundreds) and never had a rope. I have come to the conclusion that they do not spawn on dungeon bound kraken.

See also post #13 and the second portion of post #12 please... We suspect that ropes spawn less frequently on the dungeon dwelling krakens (if at all) than the deep sea ones.

Yup I'm beginning to believe in that also. I'll probably give fishing a go at the weekend and see what happens.

They do. I killed one ONCE, about a month ago, that had one.

Even worse is the armor engravement tool, which goes poof if the charges are used up.

Does the non-replica hitching post still allow you to stall pets when it's out of charges? (seeing as it doesn't use charges to stall).

I don't know about that. I've never had much trouble getting them from the dungeon.

At shame, no rope for 30min's Kraken killing.
At Buc Den, no rope for 30 fishing net spawned Krakens.

Stabling a pet via the non-replica hitching post requires the post has 1 or more charges on it, although it won't take a charge.
