100% Packet Loss and High Ping

Hi I have been lagging for quite a while, and I did a uo trace to many different servers and I noticed some hops are black and have 100% packet loss, and some other servers that are green will have a small % of packet loss and high ping that comes and goes. What causes this? And is there a fix?

Those routers (100% packet loss) don't respond to ping requests. It doesn't affect your connection.

yes there is a way to fix it


ping -l 1500 yourserver.owo.com try that command in the dos prompt

your should get a reply of pinging centra-aw3.owo.com with 1500 bytes of data
then u should see
reply from ............ : bytes =1500 time= ??ms ttl 127
reply from ............ : bytes =1500 time= ??ms ttl 127
reply from ............ : bytes =1500 time= ??ms ttl 127
reply from ............ : bytes =1500 time= ??ms ttl 127

then it will tell you packets sent and received and lost
how long it took will be on the bottom

if it comes back as a packet loss

then retype ping -l 1470 yourserver.owo.com

play with that number until u get no packet loss
after u find a number where u do not get packet loss write it down and go into your router or modem setting and find the Mtu and change it to the number you wrote down

Post your diagnostic output. Don't bother trying to troubleshoot bandwidth or latency via network cartography tools.

Don't bother attempting to manually adjust your MTU. Packet loss is due to congestion. The TCP protocol adjusts MTU and other parameters on a per connection basis. If the requisite ICMP message is blocked the connection will fail, not experience bad performance. Reducing MTU increases overhead and even if it work, which it likely won't, its a kludge.

If you remove the MTU and replace it with an MRS, it will work faster, but don't throw away the MTU as you need it link it with the HGS of course, without it, it will de-stabilize and burn, also to aid the process the new PLT and QWC with make the connection perfect

What type of connection do you have?
Generally with vista and a cable modem , Vista's TCP/IP stack is autotuned.
I generally don't see any reason to disable tcp/ip autotuning and manually set the MTU, but you can alter this value with registry settings or a third party program. There are also some tweaks for Vista that can be applied to optimize your connection....

For XP / 2003 I've always used TCP Optimizer

And had good results. In this program , you can go the "largest MTU" tab and use the owo server you play on.
run netstat -a and look for the established connection that is to port 5001. That will be the owo server. Use that ip address for the largest mtu value. For my cable connection ,1500 has always been fine

Another thinkg many people overlook....

Over time, CABLES GO BAD....

When I was working data entry, we had to help our tech guy replace about 10 cables per month in a 50-PC work area. Luckily, we didn't have to replace the ones running through the drop ceiling that often, but in the desk/computer station environment (and it's probably true in a lot of home setups), movement of the computer/router/modem, cables lying where they can be stepped on or accidentally hooked by feet under the desk, environmental factors and the like make the short cables tend to wear out much quicker than you'd think.

My system had been lagging a little more each month, so I replaced a 2-year-old, 1 meter long, cable between my router (note my router and modem are both newer than that cable - my computer too, for that matter) and my computer, and got a 10-20 ms improvement in my connection speed to my shard (returning it to where it was when the old cable was still relatively new, and I got the current computer and router).
