Blackrock never came that easy.....I was mining for days at one time after using up most of my ore.....I'd go days without seeing any.

hmmm, this is strange, I average one piece of BR per 90 minutes. I mine a lot and managed to pick up about 50 pieces per month.
+ of course the pieces from the recall script miners. They seemed to dump BR before it was worth anything (prolly to not infect anything by accident :)...
For example: "Mr. PK the Red (blackrock infected)" is attacking you!"

I hear the average rate with the best chances are about 1 piece an hour but I have heard people go as long as 5 hours without getting a single piece.

I usually mine about 3-4 hours in Fel with my elf and still don't pull a piece of Blackrock. I think my miner is fairly unlucky though.

Hey, try mining for over EIGHTEEN MONTHS as part of your normal game play as a crafter, without getting a single piece of blackrock!

Turn brightness up.

This is where you find out why your pack can never hold more than one or two items..

You can use KR's inventory list too. Still, you can mine a lot more than 1 hour without getting any BR piece.

i popped a recall miner the other night, took 54 pieces out of his pack.

went back last night, got him again for another 14.

I play UO with an LCD screen set at fairly high brightness...and I also watch my expanded journal pretty closely when I harvest resources, because that is usually what I rely on to determine when I obtain a special resource. I have never seen any message that I have mined up a piece of blackrock nor seen a piece even when I emptied out my pack.

So you mine all day long, and simply stare at your journal for an alert that you've mined something other than ore? Ummmm....errrrr...nevermind.

i havent mined all that much for blackrock
havent mined that much at all really
but i have noticed a couple things during my handful of extended mining stints

1st is i have found most of my br in caves, specifically at or near the cave opening
2nd is i have found most of my br mining shadow ore spots at or near cave openings

but, i have also mined br from off the side of a mountain or on a cave floor
so, it seems you can mine blackrock anywhere but you may have better luck with shadow spots near cave openings
def worth some experimentation i'd say

gl everyone

Yeah, seems like they are designed to go in your pack unnoticed so you can get killed by drawing up a BRE.

i wouldnt worry about him,
he's probablly a script running recall miner and he dosnt want people coming out to kill his guys!

hahahhahahaha

seriouslly, i ran into a miner the other day who was actually THERE when i jumped him.
i stopped as soon as he yelled.
healed him up, i even gave him a bunch of supplies i looted off of the 5 other recall miners i popped.

funnies of all, he was a RED miner.

thought i had seen it all in my 10.5 years of playing.

red miner.

I am not sure what point you are trying to make, but no I almost never mine more than an hour at a time (BORING!) but watching my journal with the dark letters on the light background for a change in pattern while I mine using a hot key assigned to a UO last object/last target macro is a whole lot easier on my eyes and more efficient than staring at the junk as it goes into my pack. My method works for me, but my only reason for mentioning it was to indicate that I am pretty confident that in the course of a cumulative span of many hours during the course of mining in my normal game play since the blackrock scenario started in 2006, that I didn't simply "overlook" a piece of blackrock in my pack, and I certainly don't need to look at my journal to know I haven't ever spawned a blackrock elemental, although I have intentionally used gargoyle pickaxes to spawn normal ore elementals for something entertaining to do.

Alright, first I'll admit, I haven't done much mining in a while but I decided to try it out today. Some of you who have mined more and gotten blackrock, correct me if I'm wrong but with the two pieces I got today, I never saw a message about it. I saw all the ones for the special gems but nothing when the blackrock popped and I was really trying to pay attention. Do you actually GET a message when you dig up blackrock?

BTW, I got two pieces from about three hours of mining off and on. I now remember why I haven't done any mining for a while. :p

I always have. If I wasn't watching, it can go easily past.

You can set your Log to output to Text File I do believe, do that oh yeh of no messages...and then review after a couple hours and blackrock pulled up.

Peace.

Thanks for confirming that. I do save my UO journal logs to a text file and do searches of them, I also use UO Journal converter. So far the only blackrock I have seen in the journal is blackrock infected animals, and in conversations or vendor names.

I bought a new comp early last year in the hopes of running KR, so my journal files on this comp only go back that far, but my old computer should have the log files from back to when the blackrock first started in 2006, although I doubt I will find anything different.

I think my char is just blackrock immune.

*edit*

Har...checked the logs on the old comp from September 2006 through April 2007...no blackrock mined messages...ever (enough Inu spam about it to choke a horse though).

I don't actually time in hours how long I've mined for, I go by how many sturdy shovels I've used .. so in 20 shovels yesterday I got 1 piece *sighs*

I've had an absolute ball mining since this event has been out,

laughing hysterically at the miner killed by a harpy, the miner made no attempt to help themselves so I made no attempt to call the guards *grins evilly*

dodging, and then helping the pk's that kill the scripters,

dodging pk's who kill the attended too *gulps*,

got a few pk's guardwhacked .. that made my day, miner revenge haha! altho its surprising how many miners don't call the guards when they are attacked in a GZ.

I've invented a new game .. I'm easily amused ... say 'ello' to any miner I see and time how long it takes them to recall away, usually seconds hehe so funny *grins*

the only people that have actually spoken to me has been the pk's :)

Oh well enough chatting .. theres mining to be done

Uh, I've done a lot of mining and it's impossible to watch the messages to catch that one little line that says you've mined a piece. There's a very simple solution in 2d. UO Assist, Organizer agent. Set item to a piece of blackrock (actually there are 3 different shapes of the small so you have to have one of each to set it the first time), set a bag that you keep empty except for blackrock to drop it into (I use a gift box with the white background), set a macro key, hit the macro key whenever you feel like it. Voila, no more searching!

Can people sound off on what race their miner is when they comment on the rate at which they are finding blackrock? Is it possible that elven miners are finding pieces more often than the humans because of the "Knowledge of Nature" racial ability (Elves receive a bonus to their chance of acquiring special resources like colored ore when mining)? Or does this bonus not apply to gems? For me, my human miner can take upwards of 3 hours or more before mining up a single piece of blackrock and has always been that way.

Aw, cmon - I'm just trying to capture the spirit of it. ;-) Most people here post results and there are some factors (mining skill, gloves/no gloves, elf/human) that impact results. So I want to make sure people understand the exact setup I have with my results.

But if you must know, the atmospheric conditions here in chicago are clear with bright sunshine and 40 degrees and rising to 62 today. In game, hmm.. looks like winter with no leaves on trees (fel). Didn't seem too chilly but I had heavy robe on. As for tummy - my miner was starving since he never eats. Personally I had a bowl of raisin bran for breakfast. Pulse rate is low - regular resting rate of 55 or so. I have low to moderate blood pressure so about 140/80 or so on average.

And for the ladies - boxers - no briefs. :-D

2 ecru

Oddly enough, I mine up more blackrock in Tram. It's been a while since I've mined there, but last time I did, I got 3 blackrock in one hour. The time before, 2 in one hour.
