Rares Festival silent auctions can be run multiple different ways. I will be running two silent auction houses this time so the rules can be different for each one if needed.

Should the item have to be worth a certain amount to be put in the auction? In the past there have been auctions where every single item in the house had to be worth 175m or more for example.

Should reserves and buyouts be allowed?

Should the rules for each house be different or the same?

Should the auctions end on different days, or end at the same time? (they are right next to each other).

What time of day (Eastern Time) do you think is best to end the auction? Keep in mind that the rares festival is on Sakura so there will be a bunch of people who live in Asia attending as well.

I'd like to collect as much feedback as possible so we can make the auction houses fair and fun for everyone.

Thanks! :)

i also think it should be cleared up how end times will be handled. i know there were some problems last non-atlantic fest with the 10min rule and items going to the wrong person. it may seem like a small thing, but could avoid confusion and anger at the auctions close (already a stressful time for the auctioneers)

[Discussion] - End time on an auction

i have always observed the traditional end times / bidding rules, like Nails Warstein has used for years at all the silent auction / fest auctions. if a different version is to be used, it should be made clear before any problems / disagreements come about at the end of the auction.

the way we handled the last half hour or so before close was having about 5 people monitoring the end times and bids. also keeping an eye out for bids / bidders that appeared suspicious or possibly false / troll bidding.

cross shard payment options also need to be made clear

as for end times, 11pm and 12am JST might be best overall. enough of a spread when most people should be awake, very good for european times. and acceptable for both japanese and u.s.

If it's two houses then I would say put one with items under 150m and the other with items over that amount, now it all depends on the items you have but at least it separates the low-mid end rare collector with the mid-high end rare collectors. Low reserve with buyouts is fine and both auctions end on same date with 1 hour apart would be best IMO :)

im not sure about this, maybe the exact limits could be decided. in the past, the idea was that items worth less than 175m would not be accpeted, because they could be sold on vendors. however, many new EM items are now worth less than 175m. and many rares prices gone down overall, so perhaps a lower limit would be needed for at least 1 house.

i dont want to see both houses filled with all very expensive items if the market cant handle it, but also dont want to see quality of vendor items be very poor. or people just submitting items to avoid vendor fees.

whatever the limit, the end result should still be to keep the houses at a respectable level, or else quality of items on vendors suffers.

I usually try to avoid doing that because well... people don't submit enough items. At every rares festival I've done the auction for, it's a struggle to fill up both entire houses with rares. Even while accepting lower-end things like the angel gift boxes, the houses still barely get filled.

I've always been afraid that if I set a 175m or higher limit there would only be like 2 floors of items for the entire auction. I've been setting up the bulletin boards today and so far it's looking like I'll need 170 items to completely fill all four floors of both houses.

On Atlantic that might be possible since there are so many players who would want to submit things.... but where the heck am I supposed to find 170 items worth over 175m each on Sakura in the next three weeks? That's my main concern with setting a value limit.

The rares community isn't as big as it used to be unfortunately.

Maybe it doesn't have to be as high as 175M but I think there should be a limit. A lot of people will be transferring the week of the festival or even after it starts so I would say to just not worry too much about it now and see how things play out when the time comes. Even on Atlantic people seem to wait till the last minute.

One request I would have is that if an item is put in the auction, the buyout, reserve, etc. doesn't change. In a previous fest, items went in only to have a buyout added midway through and then disappear. It makes it hard to plan and also makes me at least less likely to follow through to the end.

Maybe you could do reserves per floor?

First floor 75 million
Second floor 125 million
Third floor 175 million
4th floor 250 million

Of course you could adjust based on quantity, but it might help prospective bidders on a budget?

The traders auction houses are also running this time. The trader's house auction's always kind of been aimed at filling that gap for lower/mid-end items between the vendors and the high-end silent auction.

I'll be running two houses this time as well - there were more items than space allowed at the last two festivals. Generally in the past, I've aimed 175m+ items towards the silent auction house, at least until it fills up, or if the seller specifically wanted to auction a particular item in the traders' house auction, instead of the silent auction.

I know, auction host should be faithful to the seller
However. I hope this is a demonstration
If it is too far from the market price, you should refuse it

Run it however you want to be run it... Other players can run their vendors in their own fashion... If they profit then that's the whole point in a "festival" about rares, to show off pointless wealth and possibly profit from slightly more useless wealth relevant items. Hence the general absurdity in almost every item at any "rare"s fest.

As far as a person who hosts a house for people to post their pixel crack garbage? That's all they are, a host. People come to their house simply to express whatever value they feel is "fair" for their items and one of two things will be the result, either they sell the item for what they feel is a fair value or they don't. Either way it's typically determined by the prices they set forward on their items and the willingness of a desperate buyer (be it desperate for the item or desperate to show everyone how "special" they are to spend a little more gold than others on a specific item). Nonetheless people are there to either profit in wealth or stature.

tl;dr: "raresfest"s are pretty much a joke and most anyone attempting to pull them off in this day and age is simply attempting to jump on to a long gone bandwagon of self relevance before what's left of Ultima Online is run into the ground.
