massive duping underway

Someone posted on here about 2 weeks ago about releasing some dupe methods on a website. Today I got a message with the website's url. I looked at it and found they had listed 6 supposed methods of duping. Out of curiosity I went to TC and tried the first 3 methods. They were very simple and each worked exactly as described. I was able to dupe 3 objects easily. I deleted the stuff and the character. I didn't bother testing the other 3 methods he listed, but I would bet they work too. This is just ridiculous. Did anyone else get a message today with that url? I won't list it here or repeat it, but I hope it gets shutdown. I submitted it to UObugs.

It's hard to imagine anything they could be working on that is more important than dealing with these issues.

It's also hard to understand how it can take so long to deal with these exploits.

How can you not imagine how adding more pixel crack is more important than getting rid of dupers???? And everyone knows its more important to add senseless nerfs (the spellweaving focus one, and likely the vamp form nerf in the future) than it is to fix exploits, cheats, hacks, and dupes!

This could be the duper's tactics to evade detection - sending out mass message about the dupe (may or may not be the val hammer dupe method) so that more ppl will try them. When the dupe is out of hand, the dev will have hard time to pin-point the oringinal duper.

@Uhallers - While the duping methods I have released seem to work on all normal items, the one ray of hope that the Dev team may be able to fix them is that none of them seem to work on tokens. Whatever the difference is between them and normal items seems to work.

I propose everyone get all the items they want or think they need for the time it takes the dev team to develop new and more rational items. Once they have their new items ready to publish they should wipe every item from every shard. The babies with the muddy bath waters, so to speak. Of course they need to have the dupe bugs fixed too. Yes that is EXTREMELY drastic and the pixel crack addicts will scream bloody murder, but that is the ONLY way to remove all this crap from the game. There's only one reason to have your site list the dupes - to Encourage/increase duping as a petty, immature, attempt to ruin the game because it's not what you want it to be.

Be honest with yourself.

If you were really concerned about the game you'd have sent the dupe methods directly to EA, and never put them up on your site.

Someone with Coranthe's site address - please send it to EA - so they can rightfully action him/her for intentionally encouraging dupes.

So in this thread your trying to make it out as your just wanting to force EA into removing the duped items from the game and clean up duping methods. Although in another recent thread of yours that anyone can find through your post history, you say that your releasing the dupe methods so you can take revenge for something. I think there is some floating somewhere between your two positions.

I acknowledge that side of this doesn't shine well on me, but that's how I felt. I did give Jeremy nearly 2 weeks to improve the situation and she snubbed it until today. I published the site yesterday. Had I waited one more day, I may have waited another week, since she has shown some effort today, but it was done. I had sent 2 of the 6 methods to Jeremy some time ago and never got any sort of acknowledgement from her. More of their hush hush BS I suppose, but she could have at least acknowledged the email.

BTW, I have not received a single PM today asking me to remove the site, or from an EA rep asking for details. However, I am getting a constant stream of PMs wanting the URL which I am not sending out via Stratics sources.

Does that sound like you were being snubbed? Sure. Do I agree with not rewarding you for reporting two of the methods? Nope, I think that wasn't right.

Sometimes in life we need to do the right thing regardless of how little recognition or reward we receive. Sometimes things are frustrating, sometimes they feel futile or hopeless, but beyond all that, we need to look towards how our actions would affect the players in UO, and not just follow own anger or frustration.

You got the raw end of the deal for reporting what you did, and the devs have taken far too long to fix the issues you reported, but none of that is an excuse to take out some misguided revenge that affects the players more than it affects the developers you were trying to punish.

Send the site and bugs to them, shut down the site, and log off the PC and go watch a movie and think rationally about the people who play the game, and not just the game itself.

What else can I say? You lost hope in the dev team, but your selfish and blind actions made me lose my last shred of hope in UO and its community, as well as many others.

I am looking at this from both sides. And Coranthe may be wrong for advertising the exploit. But, if he did report it through the proper channels and nothing was done about it. I blame the devs 100%. Anger needs to be directed towards the people who ignored it if it was reported.
In the first post the guy said he went on test center and tried it. He said it was easy to do. Now, if someone can do it easy. How long would it take a dev to do it and fix it?
Maybe it will get fixed and houses will burn.

If reported duping exploits are not being fixed, then making them public will ensure that they are fixed.

Either stopping duping exploits is not a priority, or whoever is responsible for escalating show stopping issues is extremely lazy.

I think it's tremendously irresponsible to post information on how to perform duping exploits in order to draw dev attention to them. How do you know that the devs weren't already working on fixing the dupes? It's roughly equivalent to protesting inhumane treatment of animals by beating animals to death in a public forum while shouting "LOOK HOW BAD THIS IS!!!"

If you read the FoF thread where they talk about reporting duping bugs, Jeremy clearly states that you will not hear back from them at all until after the issue is resolved. They need to fix the issue and get the fix through QA before they even talk about it.

So basically, you just made the problem worse by increasing the number of people who were aware of the problem (makes people quit) and increasing the number of people who could be tempted by the easy money.

What you did was very foolish, in bad taste and generally bad for UO.
