I still like playing the game. I enjoy the challenges of the shard I choose to play. I appreciate the majority of the community here on Stratics... *winks* It becomes tiresome when almost everything starts in a dreary manner or quickly becomes that way.

There have been many changes in the UO universe sine we started all those years ago. Remember the time when the servers were full and ya had to wait to get in?

I am not saying that criticism and discussion are a bad thing. I am seeing a lot of sniping and intolerance though. We are a limited few... we should cherish and encourage each other. Just sayin'.

My old grandma use to say, "If only you could hear the joy in my voice... when I write this to you..."
Meaning we see the tone of a letter as we want to see things, but if we honestly heard the person's letter by the voice it was given to us we might not react quite the same way we do by interpreting what is written.
I come to Stratics happy and open minded... I try to give all a even voice... One can hear the joy, the pain , the worry , the sadness, and the hilarity when someone talk's to you. Writing has no such sound, and we only assume the tone... and you know the breakdown of assume

Glad you're still full of beans about UO. Many people aren't though and those types of people tend to be the ones who are most vocal on message board outlets to get their voices heard by the people developing the game. It's often those sorts of views which people have the most motivation to share since they provoke discussion. It would be fairly mundane if the board was filled with threads like: "Just logged into UO! Everything's great!" That wouldn't be too productive from a feedback POV either.

This isn't the case exclusively here on Stratics or about UO. It pretty much reflects a good proportion of message boards about any online game. No matter how good the game is, there will always be a vocal group who will find its flaws and post about them. That's the nature of the beast, I'm afraid. Always has been, always will be. Telling people to "cherish and encourage each other" won't change that. This is the Internet, not a childrens' creche (although you'd be forgiven for mistaking the two at times!)

Sure, sometimes things get a bit heated between individuals and a bit too personal. No doubt a few people here do need to take a step back sometimes and cool off because some get a little too embroiled in arguments. I like to see the positive though and recognize it is because we're such a strong and impassioned community that this is the case, even if the line is crossed on occasion.

Soft Batch Beer & Brown Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

• ¾ cups unsalted butter, softened (12 tbs)
• 1 ¼ cups golden brown sugar
• 1 large egg yolk
• ½ tsp vanilla
• 1/3 cup American brown ale
• 1 ¼ cups All purpose flour
• 1 cup bread flour
• 1 ¼ tsp baking soda
• 1 tsp baking powder
• ½ tsp salt
• 1 tsp cornstarch
• ¼ tsp cinnamon

Directions

• In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the butter and brown sugar. Mix on high until very well combined. Add the egg yolk and the vanilla, beat until light and fluff. Add the beer, beat until well combined.
• In a separate bowl, add both kinds of flour (bread flour is used to make chewier cookies), baking soda, baking powder, salt, cornstarch and cinnamon.
• Sprinkle the dry ingredients over the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
• Using a cookie scoop, scoop out balls of dough slightly smaller than a golf ball onto cookie sheets that have been covered with parchment paper.
• Place the cookies in the fridge to chill for at least 20 minutes (this prevents them from spreading too much during baking).
• Preheat oven to 325.
• Bake at 325 for 12-14 minutes or until the edges just start to turn golden brown (for a puffier cookie bake at 350 for 8 to 10 minutes). Immediately pull the parchment paper off the cookie sheet onto the counter and allow the cookies to cool to room temperature.

That reminds me of my favorite dessert cafe in NYC, Demels. I nearly wore black for a week when they closed a few years ago. Amazing sacher torte, and a host of other goodies, just like in Vienna.

Ok I have to ask... What is there to lighten up over?

I go to the EM events trying to have a good time but I can no longer attend them on my Main because some jerks with nothing better to do have decided that it's more fun and entertaining for them to make the game unplayable for me by constantly standing DIRECTLY ON TOP of my character .... I can't see where I am I can't see WTH is going on.... I've got a big flappy dragon parked on me... if I move so do they... so I can't enjoy the event on my main character anymore so I go on another character but I still can't enjoy the event because now they are doing the same BS to one of my friends..... who is mad enough to want to quit as well.... Yet page a GM about harassment and they come and SEE the obvious harassment going on...... and do NOTHING. Meanwhile an item drops at the event but do we get one?????? Hell no.... it goes to the jerks who are harassing us.... that's nice.... yes that makes me want to lighten up..... NOT. I've gotten one drop since all the changes were put in place..... ONE..... I used to get plenty of them all the time... now I get nothing.... yet I faithfully attempt to follow the events and support the EM's but the asshats who come to harass other players and make an ass out of themselves by standing all over the EM blocking everyone from seeing, casting gates to Fel all over in the crowd so folk get teleported into Fel where their buddies wait to kill them, and they spam spells over and over along with foul language and other very vulgar stuff get drop after drop which they transport off shard an sell to the highest bidder.... but those of us who are trying to support the EM's and enjoy the event get NOTHING. That makes me feel all happy..... NOT

Or should I lighten up because now that we are in the "cloud" I have to do the two step day in day out and find the game almost unplayable at times????? Should that make me feel good?

How about should I feel good that dozens of my friends have tried to return to UO but couldn't reactivate their old accounts for various reasons and I spend exhausting hour after hour trying to talk them thru the new "account management" system only to have them quit in frustration and swear off UO forever?????? Am I supposed to be happy that EA has no idea what UO is or that UO is something they are "supposed" to support? Or that we can no longer call them to get help with our account???

Or am I supposed to lighten up about the fact that the DEV team gets smaller every year andthat all hope of a new expansion or real true update looming on the horizon is completely dead??? Is that supposed to make me want to lighten up?

Or should I lighten up about the fact that the game gets more and more complicated to where if a new person did actually start trying to play they would scratch their head and go OMG THIS STINKS! And quit before they passed their 15 day trial?

Or should I lighten up that we no longer have a true "new player experience"???? So the possibility that we'll really get a bunch of new players is slim to none???? Or the fact that EA doesn't advertise it's red headed step child???? Or how we just had a monumental 15th anniversary and EA totally dropped the ball on really showing off the game like it seriously should have been... Though see above because had they done any of that I honestly doubt it would have done much to bring in new players...


I'm trying very hard to see things in a good light really I am but from where I sit and what I see there isn't much to lighten up about....... Save the fact that if you ever wanted a Castle or house in Luna your chances are rising daily as so many are leaving it's becoming easier and easier to place....

Soon you might have the whole shard to yourself... What a delight that would be... And I don't say this to BASH anyone or say anything bad about our DEV team because honestly they are certainly doing the best they can with what limited resources they have ...... I get that..... I'm just increasingly frustrated as I'm sure they are.... seeing the state of things.

You see things were getting hot and heavy in the pits.... and things were said sooooo Kelmo wanted to make it all better.... by having a lite and happy post.
We all know by heart all you said and we do know its nothing to make lite of... but for this thread the order of the day is:
Happy Happy Joy Joy *do snoopy dance* and eat cheesecake covered with strawberries or what ever is your favorite fruit in a glaze and a cup of what ever you like to drink...

Maybe you just need to get over the fact that people are allowed to stand on you. If I were a GM and you paged me about this I'd ban you.
