I've trained all weapon skills at least once..and even when I started it was never in despise..earth eles in shame then bone knights? Plus now a days I don't think 85-90% off people train 80+ off of anything but golems
Ahh the BK wall. And after that, the RC wall in Ilsh for awhile, while you could insta-cure poison by using the Ankh.

You can train up on Golems from 60ish-120 so they really are useful. Otherwise, assuming you start from 0, it's pretty easy to get to 0-50 from the (New Haven) quest, maybe even stay there until 60 then hit up the Tokuno Champ Spawn until 80, then you basically go anywhere. So many options now and it doesn't really matter since everything is Trammel ;p.

I remember liking to kill skeles at the small T2A area where the silver serps and frenzied used to spawn. Man, back then if you saw a silver serpent you would run your ass off. Now you just wither three or four times, and you're like, "'Coon's up."

Weapon skills up to 50 from Haven accelerated gains quests.
Low levels of the champ spawns are good for training, if you don't want paragons, do the Tokuno one - which spawns lizardmen. The swamp at the tip of Homare is also nicely low level.
Harpies in Covetous level 1 are non-aggressive unless attacked, so you can't get overwhelmed by numbers.
The void pool is also good, when the level gets too high for your skill, just leave.
In short there are lots of places you can do low level training.

Can we get back to the publish? and try to find something good about it?

Have u tried the revamp? It's qwerky twice 3 of us attempted it and when the boss had less that 1/8 life both times we were teleported out..but nothing died not us, followers or dread lord guy..and we received no loot or anything

Other than that and te guy having 15 billion hp..it is pretty cool..can say I'll do it again till I know why we are being booted it just takes too long.. Next I gotta check te casino out

I can't get the casino to work for me. Tried dropping gold on the cashier and they just say I deposited gold. Tried clicking on the dealers and nothing happens. I must be doing something wrong :( It's probably something easy and I will feel stupid when I figure it out lol. Oh and they forgot the tent the dealers are supposed to be in

The boss has what is commonly known as an "Enrage timer". Basically, if the battle takes too long, he casts the "Doom" spell which kills your pet and teleports you out.

When I seen Act II being disabled, I hopped on and climbed. I finally got my statues and 35 extra meer heirlooms, if anyone on Napa wants them in the next bit they will be in a bag in Luna. When did they disable Act IV, the sifting part?

Terrible revamp. I loved the others; hate this one. Despise was rich with possibilities. Now it is shallow.
I miss Ogre Lords, Ettin and EE spawn was a great place to take new players for their first dungeon crawl, the Lizardman spawn was a place to train low level characters and make some gold and the occasional arty, the Titan spawn was fun for training mages.
Sorry for the run-on. This revamp was a mistake. This, the most popular of the anti-virtue dungeons, should have been last.

Las Vegas isn't a grind because you are risking something.
Okay okay, something positive... Hmmm. Now Petra don't die of shock here, but I do like... the new ring :eyes: :D It would be good for my mage. Maybe it will make the price of the crystalline ring fall too.

First impressions. It looks freeshardy. The creatures the black rocks, trees and mushrooms all just thrown in there. I haven't figured out how to command my creature if it is possible. It follows you around like a talisman summons.
Looks awful, not intuitive to use. On the brightside, the trees can be chopped for wood.

Maybe move the new minigame and keep the old Despise?

I would still ask politely about the vanilla rare hued plants. Can we have a chance to grow them from seeds gathered in Exodus?

I took one step back, one step forward. Put my right leg in and took it back out. Then I shook it all about.

Have to say I am pretty pleased with this release. Love the ring and quiver, perfect for my mage/archer.

Also like them changing up the dungeons. I do not use this dungeon to train newbs anyway.

I like that the boss is not something that can be soloed I just hope a good party of 3 can get it done.

Earth Elementals: A nice, relatively safe small spawn is in Ilshenar in the caves with the Ratmen at sacrifice (turn south on entering). I always trained on them there, never did train in Shame or Despise. The DC & shadow eles in the Tokuno mines aren't appreciably more difficult, and there's a decent spawn of earth eles (plus a solitary DC ele) along the bottom of the Compassion Desert in Trammel & Fel, near the Sphinx from the race change quest.
Ettins: Similarly, there's an ettin spawn to train on with no other creatures except stuff people drag in from neighboring areas between Honesty and the Cyclopes Dungeon (aka the back entrance to the Wisp Dungeon).
Titans are still in level 5-6 T-maps in Trammel & Fel. And, anyone going to fight them specifically usually went to Cyclopes Dungeon/Pyramid area to fight them for paragon chests and the level 6 maps from the chests, anyway.
As others noted, there's plenty of lizardmen for spined leather at the Sleeping Dragon, and any Ilshenar or Fel spawn running the Riktor spawn. For that matter, don't the Centaurs at Oaks give Spined as well (plus arrows - two things to loot for the price of one)? Ratmen also have spined leather, as do imps, so there's spined at the majority of original champ types for easy harvesting, plus in non-champ areas like Valor Island (giant serpents and alligators) or Ice (ratmen).
I always went to the Elemental Canyon in Ilshenar or outside Umbra in the woods for nightmares - never even realized one spawned in Shame (and the Corrupted forests are SO much safer).

The only thing that really needs a new spawn location would be the Ogre Lords.

Anyone got any Brie to go with all this whine???

cant say im not happy about this publish. i cant understand why you all have your panties in a bunch about tram despise changes. not like there arent other low level spawn opportunities for new players to gain in this game 99 pct of which are probably never farmed. on the flip side you can go train fel side which remains the same and quite frankly who really ever hunts for newbie pk's on level 1 despise fel side anyway.

the new loot is nice imho. would love to grab a demon slayer warfork for the semi spawn.

i wonder how this depise change fares for seige? only one facet there so do they get the new spawn or old one?

casino is a nice touch.

So... in short... they destroyed Despise completely. :(

Change is good, yes, but Despise level 1 and 2 were a safe place to take a char with poor armor, no gold and low skills and bring them to around 80~90 skill while making a modest, but good profit. Now we don't have that anymore.
Just why, Devs? Why?
Because they do not play UO.
Because they can set thier skill at any level they want to.
Because they can turn on GOD mood.

This is really sad, I can remember playing with REAL Devs on normal players. So much for training new chars/pets and farming spined leather while you were at it.

I hazard a guess that they don't dare, because of federal law against online gambling. It's "virtual" money but can still be exchanged for real currency.
I remember some fun card games in the old Might & Magic games that I would like to see versions of.

For those of you that are pancakes about the change to Despise, shame on you...I've ran through the legacy dungeons so many times with no one in sight, no newbies, no old players training new chars. Its about time they changed things up. You can find Lizardmen and OLs in other places, and plenty of other options to train skills thanks to the New Player areas.

The one gripe I have with the new Arties is the Hailstorm artie...wtf a Taskmaster revamp? C'mon just another wasted artifact. Why not make a true pvp arti worth attaining for a dexxer and a weapon that hasnt been used already (war fork), say a 2-handed weapon with "balance" property that comes in a variety of weapons. Example:

Pitchfork/Bladed Staff/Gnarled Staff/Spear/No-Dachi/Quarter Staff
Balanced
FC 2
50% Hit Curse
50 DI

Nothing overpowered, but yet useful. Just an example, flame away but better than a revamped Taskmaster. And if you look at mage arties like Staff of the Magi: Equivalent of Spell Channeling, FC2, -0 Mage weapon, 50 DI. Crazy maxed stats for a mage.

Just a reminder that if you need to find critters that give spined leather, the Advanced Search option for the Hunters Guide on Stratics can be quite helpful. UO Stratics - Hunter's Guide - Search . Just type in the word "spined" (without the quotation marks) in the Loot field and press Enter or the Search button at the bottom. When I tried it, there were 21 results. (I like killing lowland bouras for spined leather.)

If you're looking for stuff to kill for training purposes, you can also play with the fields in the bottom half of the Advanced Search page. For example, try putting 0 in the Magery field and 80 in the Tactics field (leave the rest blank) and then other combinations in the other fields to see what you come up with. Or use the Damage Types, Fame Level, Magic Level, and Poison Levels in the top part of the page to narrow your search. If nothing else, you may get some ideas for things to hunt that you haven't tried in a while or have just plain forgotten about. And each result will also tell you more about the monster and where to find it.

Oh, I don't know, I guess some of us just think that a revamp should be better than the original? Hmmm I guess they didn't get that memo after creating a 2nd client, eh?

I agree. The minigame will be dead in 6 months, unused. It's cute but shallow.
The value of a dungeon like Despise is it gives the new player chances for an artifact. I think most of the alternate suggestions don't do that.
For those who say they never saw anyone in Despise I can only say that has not been my experience. On the three shards I play most, LS, Napa, and Atlantic, I see someone working one area or another almost every time I am there.
I think one of the old dungeons should be left as is just for the history. Despise seems like a good candidate.

Perhaps the revamp could go into the old Orc dungeon or perhaps the entry to the revamp could be in Despise and this new publish could add rather than replace.

For those who seem worked to a lather about this; chill. We can discuss this without a kerfluffle. It certainly won't decide whether I go or stay and I think the developers might appreciate a reasoned conversation with ideas from the playerbase without wading through the old soap opera.

I'm sorry, but the old content sometimes will have to be changed/altered. I mean hell, WoW did it after how many years with Cataclysm? The old content got boring and dull, so they totally revamped it. The experiance for new chars/players was different than what it was for older players. In our case it is the exact same thing. We have our memories of despise, but it has been FIFTEEN years. The Despise we had was old, boring, and one of the places in need of a revamp.

The quiver/sandals are good enough to keep people playing in despise for a chance to kill the boss and get it. In fact, the dungeon is VERY easy, and yes the Boss is "tough" to kill, but in the sense that your pet can only hit it and he has alot of HP. You arent going to be dying over and over.

Btw for anyone having trouble: Once you get the wisp inside the dungeon (just click an ankh) you will have many options with it.

0. Everything starts by double clicking the wisp statue in your backpack
1. Target a mob in the dungeon to take control over it
2. One you have control, click the statue, and then the mob to change its agression level. A: Defensive (Wont attack stuff unless you get attacked, you can easily run away to get your mob away from danger) and B: Agressive (will attack anything it sees)
3. Click the statue, then click yourself or a object on the ground - This will "Anchor" your mob. Basically, this will set it to what it follows. You can drop an item on the ground, and use that to have the mob stay stationary while you run around, or just have it follow yourself.
4. Click the statue, then click the statue again. This will change the "Leash" setting (how far your mob will move away from you). Two settings, short and long
5. Single click the statue - You have options to release or conscript. Conscript will make it so when its battle time, you and your mob will be transported to level 3 for the final stage. I suggest you have your mob near or close to level 10. Level 7-8 will work, as there ARE some mobs you can kill on the final level to kill to get it higher.

The boss has a pet with him himself, a wisp. The wisp can be killed and damaged by players, but the boss cant. When killing the wisp, the boss does eventually resummon it, so I found it was best to lure him away from the wisp altogether. (I don't know if there is any kind of silvani& oaks relationship between them). If you take too long from when battle stage FIRST starts (Not when you first get transported), he will "enrage" and cast the Doom spell. This will kill all pets, and transport all players out of level 3.

Killing any mob in the dungeon will get you the Putrid Hearts. These can be spent with the wisp outside of the dungeon on new loot level Armor/Jewels/Weapons. They will have no negative on them, but will be ephemeral.

solus makes a lot of sense here. the old dungeons became stale and hardly used. i recall in past years players clammoring for a re vamp. glad to see the new boss is not soloable.

the artifacts are fresh and seem to be quite useful. they shoud do the playing base a favor and add those bracers in as one of the prizes. even ones that are brittle or are 150/150 non repairable like the glad collar is.

some of you guys like to piss and moan about everything, such is human nature.

Amen. But sometimes people will complain just for the sake of it. There are tons of other places to hunt their favorite monsters. Not to mention there is still the Fel side which will remain unaltered for now. Sure as hell there are still plenty of places to train new characters and hunt leather. Guess it's the nostalgia people are complaining about losing rather than a long needed change.

I am kinda tired of just seeing spawns fit for Sampires or variations of them, it would be nice to see from time to time spawns that also other templates can play. Just for variety...........

Besides, I really do not understand why a hunt would need to be timed. Not everyone likes to play at the same pace and with the same tactics. Some players like taking it for longer, like with a hit and run tactics. By limiting the possible tactics to play game hunts, the variety of playing styles of players get also limited thus making the game less interesting for some players. Otherwise, why would the Sampire and its variation be so popular ?

Basically, if a players wants to PvM having a Sampire or a variation of it has become indespensable. Personally, I see this as not good for the variety of playing styles in UO.
I would imagine, that to make the game interesting to more players and thus try to increase the number of subscriptions flexibility and possibility of using a variety of templates and tactics would be helpfull. Yet, we see more spawns closed for tamers and good mostly for Sampires and their variations. What if a player enjoys playing a tamer and not a Sampire ??

I can understand change but I cannot understand that new spawns may not be played by the template of choice of players. Want to change a spawn, fine, but at least make it viable to all or at least most of the available templates out there...

I have had enough to see the equation PvM = Sampires or variations of them.

you should probably try it before you make these kid of allegations doesn't matter what temp you have...or at least find the info on it first

Some of us are just tired of the game getting slightly worse with every patch. Honestly the new Despise just LOOKS terrible and amateurish.

First of all, it hasn't been FIFTEEN years since the last change to Despise. But granted, it was long overdue for a revamp, like, well, most of the game. I don't think anyone here is arguing that it wasn't. But we shouldn't revamp something just for the sake of revamping. It should be an improvement, not something counter-intuitive and that doesn't fit in with the rest of the game. :coco:

I am still not pleased.

First off I don't do Golem training..... not only is it mind-numbingly boring but it doesn't give any loot. You get absolutely NOTHING from hitting a Golem but BORED...

Secondly I won't wear jack squat that is ephemeral..... I'm not wasting hours and hours on gathering crap for something that is going to vanish every month... I got better things to do in this game than constantly farm crap to keep my 50+ characters outfitted. That's just plain freaking stupid. Great if you only play one character you want to spend 30% of your time farming for your suit another 35% of your time farming to keep up on all your supplies then another 30% of your time working up all your virtues again because at the last EM event you stupidly rezed 3 or 4 people and healed a couple of others (Shame on you for helping your fellow player don't you know you're supposed to be playing solo!)..... so now you get to spend the other 5% of your game time at the EM event...

Screw that.

Now you won't have time for the 400 Grinds we put in for you to do... so you can't complain about them being a grind because you have to spend all your game time just keeping up your stuff.

Ticks me off so now where am I supposed to tell young folk to train???? What are you going to destroy next?


LIke I said ages ago when you messed up Cove... Please do deceit next... I NEVER see anyone in that dungeon.... asked even for you NOT to destroy Despise.. but NOOOOO you have to ruin it anyway.... *rolls eyes in frustration*

They need to be able to gather resources, kill and engage monsters that aren't going to 1 hit kill them... and still make a couple of coins while they are at it. Just where exactly are they supposed to do that??????

Yes Illshenar until they kill 3 or 4 and 2 or 3 paragons spawn and kill them 10 times in a row... I'm sure they will REALLY enjoy that.

Why didn't anyone ever tell me this??? Never knew this game was suppose to be this simple and boring. I thought guildmates, above land spawns, dungeons in other land masses other than the old land including T2A, etc were just as good for training as the crappy old dungeons were. Who knew...

Seriously, this game is large enough by now to have tons of other places to explore for new players. Stop using that lame excuse to complain about the revamps. Just because we started in the old dungeons doesn't mean new players have to. They are coming in with a heck of a lot more places to explore than we did.

Tokuno is pretty good, for example the Deathwatch beetles in the desert north of Zento. Or maybe things like, the orc caves? The solen hive? Fire/Ice dungeon? The Lost Lands? The Underworld? If they stick to beginner stuff in Ilshenar, the paragons shouldn't be too powerful either...

Really, I think people are living in the past. Most new players nowadays get handed a suit by players who see them. They arent depending on gold from monsters in Despise.

And who said new players cant go to despise? They can get good gear to use off the wisp (The Ephemeral items, which obviously aren't geared for US.). They can get their "pet" and have the PET tank the monster while they hit it and gain.

Have any of you even TRIED logging on TC1, playing is if your a newbie, and killing the mobs? I lowered all my skills, put on a sorc suit (missing a piece so I wasnt full 70's) and went to despise. What happened? Oh yea...my pet tanked the mobs, while I hit them (gaining skill, and also getting Putrid Hearts). If you find this new Despise hard, I dont know what to tell you, as this is the most player sheltered content released so far.

This means that this is yet one more hunt banned for tamers ?

I am kinda tired of just seeing spawns fit for Sampires or variations of them, it would be nice to see from time to time spawns that also other templates can play. Just for variety...........

.......What? You even even read anything thats been posted about the new content? You cant use pets, you cant use summons. You can take control over a mob in the dungeon to use as your "Pet". The final boss (Ya know, the one who drops the new arties) can ONLY be damaged by your "Pets". A sampire, dexxer, or WHATEVER cant do ANY damage. A MULE could go to despise, get a pet, and as long as they have magery or a healing method to keep to pet alive can do this content.

on the flip side you can go train fel side which remains the same and quite frankly who really ever hunts for newbie pk's on level 1 despise fel side anyway.
Yep, I bet you could be on level 1 of Fel Despise for days and never see a soul.

Now going to the bottom.....not a good idea for a newbie. ;)

Man I play Atlantic where there are people. I've sent a million new/returning people to Despise when they wanna know WTF to do after Haven and telling them to go beat a golem for days isn't really viable.

Have you bothered to test it out or read my posts? A new player can definitely still go to despise. Its VERY easy, they basically get a free pet to tank for them!
