hello, new to the pure mage template, ive been wondering whats the point of going +100? the spec moves are acquired at 90, so... whats the point in going 120, a better chance to block hits?
if a dexer has 120 weapon skill, you need to have 120 wrestling or another weapon skill to counter it. anything less and you are less likely to defend.
Same goes for hitting with wrestle. if they have a 120 weap skill and you have 90, you prolly won't hit them.
If you use good tactics and keep your distance from your targets, then you don't really need wrestling. It will help prevent you from being interrupted by melee (including archery attacks) but not from the spells of others. None of my mages use wrestling while fighting monsters. You can always hold a Mage Weapon if you need to increase your defence.
To prevent interruption, from any damage source, you can use the Protection spell. Here is a link to a recent/ongoing discussion on the use of that spell:
Not at all, especially if you hunt in areas that are crowded with lots of monsters, or if you fight monsters that are fast. You will get hit a lot less if you have Wrestling. It is not always possible to keep a safety distance. A mage weapon is not really a clever alternative for a monster hunter, because it prevents you from holding a slayer spellbook.
