The Entertainment Merchants Association, the trade association representing game sellers, has released their nominees for their 2009 Video Game Home Entertainment Awards. (Note to EMA: Terrible name. Change it.) A total of 90 nominees were recognized in 20 categories that encompass the most-popular gaming platforms and genres. Winners will be announced at Game Supply: The Supply Chain Academy for Interactive Entertainment on February 11, 2009 in Burbank, CA. The full list of nominees is available here.
WoW: Wrath of the Lich King somehow managed to be the ONLY nominee for PC game of the year. Takes a bit of the suspense out of who will win doesn't it? The nod was the only nomination for WoW; though publisher Activision Blizzard was nominated for Third Party Video Game Publisher of the Year, competing against EA and Ubisoft.
Interestingly enough WoW:WotLK was the only clearly PC-only game on the list. While there certainly other nominees that had PC ports (Fallout 3, Call of Duty 5, etc.), it looks like the EMA gave PC-only games the shaft this year. For more information, or to express your disappointment, feel free to contact Grace Lee of the EMA.
