wolf spider training trick

So i made a new toon and im trying to get the wolf spider training trick to work to get some gains. I have 60 taming and lore, 100% poison wep, made a guild, and cant attack the spider. I tell it to guard, then stop, then follow, but i cant attack it. if i command it to attack me, I will swing on it, but it will swing on me too. how do i get this to work? did they change this?

I cast an offensive spell on the wolf spider to trigger an attack and then switch to my 100 poison weapon and its working. Does anyone know if a use best weapon skill will allow for gains?

Sounds like you have the "Block War on Pets" option turned on. But yes, a UBWS wep will allow you to trains Swords/Macing/Fencing skill, whichever is highest.
