As you may have heard, hurricane ‘Sandy’ has been hitting the east coast of the United States last night and also resulted in the loss of electrical power for a huge area. Our US hosting center is also located in that territory and they are currently running on generator power to keep the servers and installations running. It might be that if these generators run out of fuel, they could no longer provide power. This would result in all of our games (except Age of Conan European servers) and services getting temporarily unavailable. The hosting center has significant amount of fuel onsite and more coming in, but there’s always a small chance something else goes wrong or that the promised fuel deliveries doesn’t show up as promised.
We do not expect this to happen but it is currently impossible to estimate the chance of this situation to occur. It also depends on the further situation with hurricane ‘Sandy’. If anything should change in the given situation, we would inform you again.
Some of you might also experience a slower connection to one of our games or services. This is most probably due to several fiber cables being destroyed by the storm in the US east coast area. So far we’ve seen no issues due to this but it’s always possible that some customers ISPs will have issues. Even if they do, we expect that the issues will most likely be relatively short as the ISPs in question can likely reroute traffic around the failures.
Funcom wants to express our hopes and wishes of safety for all the people affected by hurricane ‘Sandy’.
