is there a limit as too how many times you can transfer a pet?

There is no limit to the number of times you can transfer a pet between players.

However, there is a limit on the number of times a pet can be re-tamed by different tamers, so always transfer pets between characters rather than releasing and letting a second character tame them. The cap on re-tames is 5 or less if the pet's taming difficulty reaches 120 skill before that.

great and thanks wenchkin. i have a dreadmare i've passed back and forth between chars in different accounts and didnt know if i was getting close to the limit.
