Trade Orders - 20 dragon scales and 20 spined leather

Dear Stratics community,

what's your opinion on trade orders? I am a bit hesitant to demolish that thing with a huge rant. But 20 dragon scales and 20 spined leather isn't doing it for me. Scrolls Of Transcendence? Yes, very nice. As for the other things... I am not sure. Are they aimed at returning players for a very light risk to get some rewards?

I also looked at the new cleanup rewards. There are some items I'd like to get but I somehow don't think I will be getting too many of them because of the endless grind needed to accumulate the 180m points needed.

What do you think about trade orders especially? Are they fun or rewarding? Or both? I am not yet convinced I like them too much. Further investigation is advised.

Would love to hear from you, tell me what you think!

Kind regards.

The trade orders have been the thing that everyone has been doing on Pacific. I think it helps to have an enthusiastic governor who gets excited when she sees her city coffers fill up from the orders her citizens turn in. Second, yes I've gotten scales and leather but I've also gotten that .4 taming transcendence scroll and those relic fragments. For effort that goes into these trade orders, I mean to keep doing them!

On a side note, it is kinda funny that I happened to get that animal taming scroll for delivering five slices of bacon. Someone must love their bacon! Devs, can you make a minor modification and allow us to harvest bacon by cutting up piggy corpses? :D I'd hate to drive the price of bacon too sky high by buying it all up from the butchers, them obviously being a stackable resource....

Did a couple, got bored, don't really care about rewards. Would like some of the smuggler awards but too much sailing involved. I may get around to it someday, but just seems like another grind. I do think it's nice that they gave us a different way to fund towns, I'm sure many people will be dedicated to it.
Killed some old monsters, loot is garbage. Back to Shame I guess, expected, but still a bummer.
Don't pvp, so VvV while a nice addition is not an addition I will be taking part in.

This publish is nice and all but it really isn't doing anything for me. Bring on a fun content loaded Halloween!!! *crosses fingers*

How many orders have you done?

In case you missed it...The rewards get better the more orders you do

I did not know that. So I saw that the farther the trip is, the more gold that gets donated. Is this calculated based on a straight line on the map from city to city or is it dependent on your travel? If I eschew the moongate and instead walk the road from Trinsic up to Britain, will this earn more gold (aside for likely being ambushed a lot more which earns you more as well)? Also, does this apply to taking ships and can ambushes spawn on ships?

I think the Trade Orders are a pretty decent addition, the rewards could always be better, but I know it's a progression system anyway, the more orders you do, the bigger orders you can get, similar to the fishing quests.

It's not something they can't add more too, I think there should of course be more rewards from Slim the Fence, as well as additional rewards for delivering it to the appropriate City.

adding Runic's to the list of rewards could be good as well, maybe something the devs will consider. I like the fact you can't recall, and the main-land will toured again.
the shop signs are great, I'm also surprised it has taken this long for them to become obtainable.

Many thanks for the replies so far. I am inclined to believe that I personally would be very happy if rewards were buffed up with this one. Treasury gets 10k gold? Well, then give me 10k gold, too! This would be very welcome. Economy is "broken" so much that this won't imbalance anything imho. But for people who struggle with lots of other income methods, if this would gain you like 200-500k gold per hour on an average, I would find that a very good.

People who would possibly struggle with other gold income methods:

  • Returners
  • People with less gear
  • People with bad connections
  • People who will enjoy the trade quests but won't enjoy the other grinds

Maybe I am too naive but I think if my list is about right, I would welcome this kind of change: 10k gold for the treasury, 10k gold for the quester (in addition to any other rewards for the quester).

Also, does this apply to taking ships and can ambushes spawn on ships?
I did a trade order on Origin on Monday or Tuesday with my tamer. Had to go from Trinsic (Trammel) to Jhelom (Trammel) and deliver 20 cakes. Went by ship and three times a group of water eles, deep sea serpents, and krackens spawned. Some of them swam off and I didn't pursue them. But the ones that did stay had the usual paltry loot on them, in spite of having many more hit points than usual. I really wasn't sure if there would be any difference in the "reward" to the Trinsic treasury or to my tamer if she just ignored the ambushing monsters or if she needed to stay and take them all out. So, I compromised and had her do what bothered to stick around the ship; thus, a few stray deep sea serpents "got away."

The spawn wasn't any big deal to handle. What was a little alarming was having the GD that she took along because I had no idea what the spawn would be end up sliding completely off the little ship a couple of times and end up standing on the water. I kinda figure the GD must have "flown" onto the ship when boarding in Trinsic and never actually got its feet really in the ship. Or the ship was just too dinky for it to get comfy.

The reward was 35,000 gold to the Trinsic city treasury and 60 cut spined leather plopped in my tamer's backpack. The tamer went from Unknown to Commendable in Trinsic, but I honestly don't remember how "unknown" she really was. I may have done a few of the troublemaker-escorts with her back when those were first available, but I don't really remember doing that so she more than likely was rock-bottom in loyalty for Trinsic before doing the quest. Also, even though the message she got upon handing in the trade order said she'd gained praise in Jhelom as well, her city loyalty for Jhelom still shows as "Unknown."

The tamer's real skills (she's not wearing any skill-based jewelry or talismans), which supposedly influenced the strength/skills of the ambushing monsters, were: 110 lore, 120 taming, 100 magery, 40 meditation, 120 musicianship, 120 peacemaking, and 110 veterinary.

Edited to add: Since I've never taken advantage of the trade deal buffs anywhere, I am not falling all over myself to do the trade quests just yet. I'm kind of waiting to hear what happens with the rewards to my character as you do more quests. I just haven't been able to get myself too worked up yet about the governorship system and the way the trade deal buffs work (seems like sponging off someone else's hard-earned gold to me, so I've steered clear of it), so that's not much of a motivator for me at this point. However, I will say that I think this is a much improved solution for filling city coffers than expecting people to just pony up the gold as part of being a governor.

Is there a degree of difficulty for trade orders with the most dangerous bringing better rewards ?

Is there a list on Stratics somewhere of all the possible trade orders available ?

Don't forget that now you can use the moongates in Trammel instead of just the moongates in Felucca. However, using a moongate has negative repercussions on the rewards.

The quester should get a cut of the money. 3% or something.

Does it still level the quest when you use the moongate? If so it really shouldn't cause I bet I could burn out 50 in a day via moongates if I really wanted to, then start doing them regular.

I went and grabbed a copy of the publish notes about the quest because I couldn't remember anymore! Sorry it didn't format too well.

Trade Ministers will now offer players the ability to deliver goods between cities in exchange for a variety of rewards!

Players may get an offer for a trade order by accessing the context menu on a City Trade Minister. Trade ministers can be found near the docks or stables in the loyalty cities.

Upon accepting a trade order players will not be able to magically teleport except for using public moongates. Using public moongates will forfeit any distance bonus and rare chance at rewards.

Players accepting their first trade order will receive a message from “A friend…”

Trade orders can be cancelled at any time by selecting “Cancel Trade Order” from the context menu on the trade order container.
Items required to fill the trade order are generated from the real time inventories of shop keepers in the region.

Up to five items in varying quantities can be applied to a trade order and are based on the total number of trade orders a player has completed.

Items may be dropped inside the trade order directly or filled from the top level of the player’s backpack using the “Fill from Backpack” context menu option from the trade order container.

Stackable, insured, and blessed items will not be put into the trade crate when using the “fill from Backpack” option.

Trade orders cannot be removed from the player’s backpack and will be destroyed if the player character transfers.

Each trade order has a destination city indicated in the item property display of the trade order container.

While delivering the trade order players may be randomly ambushed by monsters.

Ambush mobs will have a special “Ambusher” item property, and will despawn after 10 minutes of not being attacked.

Monster difficulty scales based on the stats and skills of the player.

Killing monsters while delivering a trade order provides a bonus to the amount of gold the destination city treasury receives up to a capped number of kill per delivery.

Trade orders with greater distances between the origin and destination city will boost the amount of gold deposited to the destination city treasury as well as the amount of resources rewarded.

When a player successfully returns a filled trade order to the correct destination city’s Trade Minister they have a chance of receiving a variety of rewards including,

- 1 in a set of story books with a unique story from each of the loyalty cities. Each player is eligible for one set of books and will receive a new one each time a book is rewarded.
- A random NPC guild sign engravable with a wooden container engraving tool
- Random resources for blacksmithing, carpentry, tailoring, and imbuing
= A random 0.1 – 1.0 Scroll of Transcendence

A deposit of funds will also be made to the origin city’s treasury.

Players received positive Karma and City Love in the destination & origin cities if trade orders are turned into the City Trade Minister

A player may also opt to deliver a completed trade order to Slim the Fence for rewards including,

- A skeleton key
- A random magic item
- A random 0.1 - 1.0 Scroll of Transcendence
- A rare chance at “An Expired Voucher for a Free Drink at the Fortune’s Fire Casino”
- A rare chance at “Forged Artwork from King Blackthorn’s Castle”
- A rare chance at “Slim the Fence’s Little Black Book”
- A rare chance at “Slim’s Shadow Veil," an uber shadow colored leather mempo with Faster Casting 1

Players received negative Karma and City Hate in the destination & origin cities if trade orders are turned into Slim the Fence.

Specialty Titles are available from the Title System Menu when completing trade orders:

- Trader – Deliver 1 trade order to the City Trade Minister
- Exporter – Deliver 25 trade orders to the City Trade Minister
- Broker – Deliver 50 trade orders to the City Trade Minister
- Tycoon – Deliver 100 trade orders to the City Trade Minister
- Magnate – Deliver 150 trade orders to the City Trade Minister
- Smuggler – Deliver 50 trade orders to Slim the Fence

I would use the moongates through the first few tiers, just to get you up on the rewards, then take the longer route without moongates once I've reached the upper tiers. Just to get to the good rewards faster.

I would advise not bothering with a water route if a land route is available because the krackens that spawn are far, far too time-consuming to bother with if you're trying to kill all the spawn. You get brigands, trolls, and orcs (at least with the first quests?) that are much easier to kill.

For my peace tamer that I mentioned above, her second quest took her from Trinsic to Minoc. Went from Trinsic to Britain in a little boat and had to stop 5 or 6 times to kill krackens, deep sea serpents, sea serpents, and water elementals and it was taking forever. Plus the GD fell off the boat again. Stopped at Britain bank hoping I had a galleon in the bank for that character but she didn't have one. So I decided she and the GD would just run to Minoc. Had two spawns the whole way up and they went over easily. The order requested 5 pieces of cut cloth. The reward? 96,500 gold to Trinsic and a 0.1 snooping SoT.

Status in Trinsic: Still Commended. Status in Minoc: Unknown.

Does anyone know yet if the spawn gets tougher, and/or more frequent, and/or more numerous as the value of the trade quest increases?

Twenty minutes or so to deliver a second order to Minoc for 10 bread loaves. Spawn was various combinations of gargoyles, orcs, giant spiders, brigands, ogres, dire wolves. Had 3 or maybe 4 ambushes along the way, not using moongates, just running the whole way. Reward was 79,000 gold to Trinsic and 96 copper ingots to my character.

Third order done now from Trinsic. She's still at Commended there. This is the second order she's brought to Minoc and she's now Commended there as well.

Question because I haven't had a chance to participate in these yet. As a tamer, I would think it would be faster to use a cu than a GD, especially for that level of spawn? Use the cu as a mount rather than walking with a GD.

I just finished my seventh quest on Sonoma and the overland spawn so far has consisted of ettins, brigands, ogres, dire wolves, orcs, giant spiders, trolls, and gargoyles. A nightmare (sometimes with the help of an EV to speed things up, since my peace tamer has no eval and pretty poor mana regen) handles the overland spawn very well.

Spawn on the sea has consisted of water elementals, sea serpents, deep sea serpents, and kracken. Unfortunately, the kracken have a ton of hit points and one nightmare alone would probably take a long time to finish them up. Also, the spawn at sea has a tendency to just float off and I'm trying very hard at this point, mostly as an experiment, to kill every one of the ambusher spawn just to see if it helps maximize the rewards. So, I've kind of had to resort to using a greater dragon when the destination city requires an extensive jaunt at city.

Britain is the city I'm trying to use for the origin for all trade quests so far. All the quests have been completed in Trammel. The first quest went to Minoc; 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th quests went to New Magincia which meant at some point I had to take a boat if I did not want to use the moongate. Three of those quests I did almost entirely via galleon, but the last one I ran almost to Vesper with the GD in tow and then jumped on a galleon to finish it. It took exactly the same amount of time doing it that way, with 3 overland spawns of ambushers and 1 sea spawn, as one of the previous jaunts by galleon that had 6 sea spawns (lots of krackens and therefore lengthy to finish because I wanted to kill all of the spawn). I'm not sure that cu sidhe would have worked all that well on a galleon. And unfortunately, once you're committed to finishing the quest, you have to run/sail everywhere, which means getting to a stable if you've picked the wrong pet. Also, you get no choice for the city where you take the quest. You just have to look at the chest or crate that shows up in your character's backpack to see what the order is for and where it is going and how much time you have left to deliver it (I think the maximum time is 23 hours).

Britain to Minoc riding a nightmare with 2 ambusher spawns took 13 minutes. Order was for 15 dyes. Yield was 38500 gold to Britain and a 0.8 healing SoT.

Britain to Magincia sailing with a GD with 1 ambusher spawn took 20 minutes. Order was for 5 muffins. Yield was 38,000 gold to Britain and a 0.1 lockpicking SoT.

Britain to Magincia sailing with a GD with no ambusher spawn at all took 15 minutes. Order was for 5 bread loaves. Yield was 33,000 gold to Britain and a 0.1 detecting hidden SoT.

Britain to Jhelom riding a nightmare and using a galleon at the very end with 2 overland spawns took 20 minutes. Order was for 10 lesser explosion potions. Yield was 55,000 gold to Britain and a 0.7 item identification SoT.

Britain to Magincia sailing with a GD with 6 ambusher spawn took 30 minutes. Order was for 20 wizard's hats. Yield was 78,000 gold to Britain and a 1.0 lockping SoT.

Britain to Magincia running and then sailing with a GD with 4 ambusher spawns (3 overland, 1 at sea) took 30 minutes. Order was for 20 widebrim hats. Yield was 83,000 gold to Britain and 112 frostwood boards.

Britain to Trinsic riding a nightmare with 1 overland spawn took 11 minutes. Order was for 20 leather caps. Yield was 26500 gold to Britain and 56 silver dragon scales.

Total cost these 7 quests to buy the items to fill the orders has been 997 gold. Total amount of gold acquired from ambusher spawn corpses, minus the cost to fill the orders and stable pets, has been approximately 6,000 gold. Time spent so far running orders around: 139 minutes. Total gold to Britain's coffers: 352,000. Rewards to my character: 2.7 points spread out over 5 SoTs, 112 frostwood boards, 56 dragon scales. City Loyalty increases: Commended in Britain (started as a fresh, new citizen there this morning, never been a citizen elsewhere); Commended in Magincia; Unknown everywhere else.

I only have done a few escort quests yet, but the sea ambushes seem to be little out of hand:
- the plain sea serpents float off regularly
- on an invis tamer, its pet (a cu) is mostly ignored
- breath attacks from deep sea serpents seem to do to much damage (died easily on 2 dss attacking the same time)
On the positive side ... I seem to get t-maps better from those sea ambushers than from the regular mobs of that kind. Not to forget, that the maps are one lvl higher as usual. means ... getting lvl 3's from dss.

Actually the rewards are very worthy of the effort. Maybe too worthy ... Up to now I got:
- 1.0 sot wrestling (Used a moongate on this one, course i had no ship with me.)
- 23 spined leather
- 0.3 sot lockpicking
- 96 heartwood boards
- 13 turquise
- 9 white pearls
- died once and lost the order *g*

Im on 5 item orders and haven't received anything better than an SOT. Ive gotten tons of skeleton keys and a bunch of armor that is no good to me. I had one order that was a 20 20 20 20 15 and sailed and ran (no moongates ) quite a distance and was ambushed 3 times. I killed all of the ambush spawn all 3 times and turned it into Slim the Fence only to get yet another skeleton key. Im wondering if it takes a 5x20 order to actually get a rare drop. Has anyone actually received one of the rare drops(art work, slims book, the fc 1 mempo etc) ?

On the non fence side, there is really no benefit to not using gates. No books or Guild plaques. *shrugs* On my shard the Minoc Gov has been on Alt for quiet a while, so I care not how much money Minoc gets. But I've made the town a lot! It's my home since mid 98

I have done around 35 quests. The rewards seem to be completely random. I got one of the books within my first 10 quests. I have used the gates numerous times and got a better reward than some of the rewards I have got traveling not using the gates. The publish notes don't say anything about using a gate will reduce the reward. Also Making sure you get ambushed alot might give you more resources. I did one where I purposely got ambushed 5 times and only got 108 bloodwood. But I got a sign from one quest where I didn't get ambushed at all. Bottom line. The reward is totally random and I think luck is involved.

Actually, it does:
  • Upon accepting a trade order players will not be able to magically teleport except for using public moongates. Using public moongates will forfeit any distance bonus and rare chance at rewards.
Using a moongate isn't helpful if you want the rares (SoTs don't appear to be considered "rare.")

The number of items requested doesn't appear to correspond to the rewards given, but who knows.

I have rec'd two books doing Trammel side. Are there two different sets of books? When on TC, I rec'd a plaque my first Trammel quest unless they changed that. For me I see an extreme drop in resource count and chance and higher drops when I use gates. 20 of something vs big gems, big piles etc.

I"m on tier 4, almost to Tycoon title, and have only received a sign. The highest gold i've gotten was 84k , which I spent almost 20k on the items, had 7 ambushes of which I only killed 2. And my reward was a .06 provo. Siege has to pay 3x the npc prices, plus we don't get "that I can see" any felucca luck at all. But it's a screwing we're all used to.

There seem to be different tactics ..
One of the best seems to be using public moongates to speed up the trade order tiers. (Each tier increases thenumber of requested items types by 1). The resources you get are capped down to around 20%. So you only get 20 baords, ingots, 2 rare gems etc as reward. The twon you start gets 10k for such quick trade on tier 1. On tier 2 you twice that reward ... so 2 times 20% and the town already gets 20k gold. Each killed ambush seems to increase the gold for the town for around 10k. (Easy to check, when you get 10k for each quickly done trade deal and around 20k when you are getting ambushed and kill those beasts.) Sots as reward are totally random. You can get a 1.0 on a quick trade3 or a 0.1 on a slow one.
I have no further clues on sots on multiple line orders and I yet have to do larger orders the slow way. (Basicly I was only building up town reputaion on the char, with whom i did the fast travelings via the moongate, but I guess I should use it on my slow going char as well. I hardly can imagine, how much resources you might get on a 5-line-quest considering I got around 100 heartwood boards from a 1-liner, 20 from a quick 1-liner and 40 from a quick 2-liner.)

I made 1m on my first run from a SoT. Got rubbish on the next two, and a NPC sign on the 4th. That's not too bad tbh. They're fun to do, especially in my RP chars armor. If they gave me all the good stuff in a few days, I'd not be doing them in a month or two.

Ran into a problem while attempting to complete my trade order s today.
The tailors seem to first of all, not restock inventory as quickly as one might like. When you purchase all their inventory and then you wait patiently, sometimes the item you needed does not get restocked
You then see 2 sets of doublets, which can now be purchase but no shirt!!..you can not complete your order!!
Then sailed to my destination and figured, I will buy it there. Nope!! that tailor has the same problem, selling all doublets but shirts are outta stock!!
