The "Pirates" tag is for posting information concerning the hunting of pirates, or of playing a Pirate yourself (A hunter of Merchant ships, or even PvP on the High seas). Cannon use, loot, other things of this nature (or even bragging of your booty) will fall into this.
"The "Ships" tag involves the ownership, maintaining, repairing and operation of your ship, as these features are too common to fishing and pirating/pirate-hunting to put into one category or the other (and are a lot more complex in operation than just handing a map to a navigator and praying you come close to your target.
