Queen Lucinda and her childhood friend Patience were mystics in a gypsy camp. They were both taught by the same Seer who constantly spoke more highly of Patience than Lucinda. Outraged and jealous the Queen devised a plan to steal the magic from Patience and put it in a place she would never again have access to it, a carpet.
Once the despicable deed was complete Lucinda had a servant take the carpet, now imbued with magic, to a far away hiding place. The servant, named Rain, got horribly lost and was unable to find her way home. The Queen, thinking Rain was dead, became irritated that she would never know where the carpet was hidden, but relieved that Patience would not know either.
Once Patience was found to be without mystic powers she was able to live a life of the ordinary. She made her own gypsy wagon and began to thrive as an individual without responsibility of great powers. She was also able to find a love and settle into a happy family.
Queen Lucinda was furious that her plan to ruin Patience had failed. She devised another devious plan to separate the two lovers. Deep in the night the Queen had all the men of the tribe kidnapped by pirates, so as to draw attention away from her. She also had Patience taken in opposite directions from home and the pirates.
The servant, Rain, wandered into Britain and found local guardsmen who were most helpful to the young woman. She told them of her getting lost and requested their assistance. Deep in her soul Rain knew something very wrong had happened. She desperately needed to find the carpet.
The mission is to find the carpet, the lover, and Patience.
