After a brief sleep, Anasazi awoke. His joints and bones reminded him of days long gone. Arrow wounds, mace bashes, and worse...

As they all came back to him, a wry smile crossed his face...but it was short lived as he made his way to his haggard feet.

"Son of the gods!!" he said with a grunt.

Looking around him, he was unsure of where he was for a moment or two...but he quickly gather his wits.

The royal castle...what now? he thought.

Thinking back to the many times he had been in the presence of the Royal Court, and the many times he had fought against them...he was hesitant.

"Oh, why not?" he said aloud as he struggled to pull his boots up.

Looking down, he realized that he had allowed his armor to fall into disrepair.

Well, if they have any reason to kill an old man like me...armor wouldn't stop them, he thought.

He struggled, once again, out of his front door.

The snow was drifting to the height of the hind quarters of a horse...and the temperature had fallen so that it was painful to breathe.

Grayson looked upon his young daugther, Abigail, and said "We cannot go on! We must return home!"

She didn't reply. For the first time in his daughter's young life, she was not arguing with him. A pale blue hue had taken her countenance. She was struggling.

"ABIGAIL!!" he shouted to her...but there was no reply.

He rushed to her, and gathered the fail young lass to his breast...

What have I done? He thought.

Grayson and Abigail awoke that morning by a dying fire. Both were not rested, and shivering.

"W...we...cannot continue" he said to his young lass.

She didn't respond. She was obviously still freezing.

Without another word, he gathered his younger daughter, and bundled her as tightly as he could...and they made for home.

After packing up their gear, Grayson gathered Abi, and they rode for home. She was coming around, but he realized that he had been foolish in following his oldest daughter Morgana.

"She...well, she will be fine..." he uttered aloud. Abigail did not seem to notice, she was fast asleep, and breathing well. Her color had returned, and she was snoring lightly. He knew then that she would be okay.

That girl will be the absolute death of me he thought to himself...letting his mind wander a bit. This was brief, as he was suddenly knocked off of his horse by something.

I can't see a thing! Anasazi thought to himself as he faced a bright midday sun. Shielding his eyes with his hand, he made his way to his stables.

His trusted steeds, like himself, had seen better days. He had to spend several moments deciding which of them would be most likely to survive the journey. After selecting a his favorite horse, he decided that perhaps neither of them would survive the trip, and that they could both be done with all of this nonsense.

"Come on old man...let's go see a man about a ghost." he said to his faithful old friend.

They made their way along the road. It was bright, and clear, but it was cold. This was the kind of day that you might wish for snow, as the moisture would hold some heat. As it was, Anasazi realized that he was not dressed as warmly as he needed to be...and neither was his horse. He could feel the old horse shaking as they rode forth.

Nope. This is not going to do. he thought, and he turned and rode towards the blacksmith. He needed supplies.
