The answer to Tina's question about quest/escort/plant/etc timers was unfortunate. These timers are annoying to keep track of.

Many MMOs set their timers at 18-20 hours so people can actually try to make them fit their schedules.

@Kyronix To get around shard crashes affecting timers, have the server reset them at a specific time every day, say 4am "local time." This would in no way alter game balance, and would be a positive change to show the players that you care.
It still requires culling every timing based system, and that is not a small task. Are they that much of an inconvenience that you'd rather see that changed then a new content update or an outdated system revamped?

Am I wrong in assuming that any player created castle designs would really only be the current castle design with alterations? IE moving steps, interior walls, doors and such? If one were to completely change the layout of the courtyard, 90% of the current castle locations wouldn't fit a solid 31x31 foundation because of blocking items that the current courtyard allows.
In talking about redesigned castles we've thought that being able to convert existing castles would definitely be a necessity. Handling deco in the existing structure may be somewhat problematic, but being able to altar the design without replacing is a must have, right?

Also...How much would you pay to have your castle converted to a new layout?

This is a big factor to my game play. I use to do a lot of things daily but every day it gets pushed further and further away. If they even made them 23 hour cycles. Perhaps little by little change one at a time. Let them be surprises and then when they are all done, announce it :)

I think the contest should be focused on new designs using any tiles we want. I'd love to see player designed Japanese, Spanish, German, style castles and keeps. At the same time why limit the contest to just castles and keeps? Let the creative house designers do whatever they like. Its a contest so they will be judged. If someone designs a multi-building complex in the castle footprint and its totally awesome, why not let it in?

It's feedback like this will help us outline the scope of what kind of crafting "love" may be in store for the future. We didn't offer more details because we are still very early in the conversation.
I am sure we can brainstorm some ideas for you all to chew on. I'll start with incription since that is one of my favorite skills, yet has not seen an update in forever.

For inscription, I would like to see an update that increases both the benefit to the crafting products produced by a scribe and the combat affects of the skill. At 120 inscription, I think there should be another SDI bump (another 1% for every skill point over 100 for PvM; PvP bump can be debated), and increased CF. Reactive Armor and Magic Resist should also see a bump. For the crafting side, I want to see scribes create powerful spellbooks. They should scale in power up to the number of mods and intensity as can be created with a valorite hammer or barbed runic kit. This should include the ability to choose some options similar to reforging. For example, I would love to have an Arcane Spellbook of Aegis with mods similar to the overcapped mods from reforging. You could employ the reforging or imbuing systems to help with crafting creation. One thing that is important for spellbooks is slayers. You should make these selectable (like imbuing). Also, consider adding the talisman slayer groups (i.e. Vermin, Mage, Fire, Ice, etc).

One thing I would like to see is a means to craft talismans. I am not sure which skill this would fall into, but likely tinkering with a support skill (maybe a choice of inscription or alchemy). It would be great to have a means to custom build these with a reforging or imbuing like menu. Of course intensities would need to be scaled to be about as powerful as the Mana Phasing Orbs or the new Talismans introduced in Pub 86.

And while we're talking crafting, I would very much like to see a basic elven glasses or gargish glasses introduced to the game that we can imbue/reforge. I very much like the look of glasses (particularly on gargs) and often times the Library rewards glasses don't fit the needs of modern suits.

Hopefully, Kronix, that starts to get you thinking about inscription with some other thoughts on talisman and glasses.

I'm sure a design that only included different materials or textures and required no changing of the footprint at all, and therefore would not require another placement would be very popular.

I also don't think replacing, if it means additional functionality, would be a deal breaker.

Price is subject to the individual user, and the perceived benefit of any new layout or design. Keeps seem like low hanging fruit with all the wasted space in the lower wings under the ramparts.

It broke due to changes in the data inside the client. I don't think that a fix is available to us folks out here, but I could be wrong.

I am chomping at the bit for something to use up reagents like magery did in the pre-LRC days. Inscription seems like a likely candidate!
Cap LRC at 80 and introduce a blessed bag for reagents. Like the blessed quivers for arrows.
That way PvP mages won´t be put out of the fight by looting reagents and reagents would be regularly bought again. A small but steady gold sink.

This would be revamping an outdated system. A wildly outdated, inefficient and inconsistent system. Why have multiple little timers counting down when there could be just one? It would increase people's playable time, which is always a good thing.

Would you, and maybe @Tina Small, mind putting together a list of which timers you find most inconvenient and sending them over? If we have a targeted approach it'd be much less of a monstrous task then looking at everywhere timing is used. Then we can have a much better of idea what we can and cannot do. One unified timer is not technically possible unfortunately.

With regard to the usefulness of minor artifacts, as queried. There are a lot of items that are way below the 450 threshold for non exceptional items, forget about maximizing possibilities.

I would like to know if there are plans to allow us to imbue them, or perhaps in the case of unique items like the ancient samurai helm, or helm of swiftness, and possibly others I am forgetting, to add them to appropriate places in the crafting menu so that we can make them from scratch ourselves, and then make them something we will use.

Who is Stephen and who is Gregg? I know everyone else but no idea on those 2.

How are we suppose to build prefab keeps and castles ? Wish we could least get plots on test center for this just plots.

But even that would require a modification of the custom housing tool. And, we have been told that is a non starter.

I would get a larger sampling on how many are excited about having to 120 all the rest of the crafting skills. There would have to be some pretty big pots of gold at the end of those rainbows, for me.

Since its now been several years since this project was started, and we've only been given one glimpse of redone wall tiles two years ago, I'm guessing no. Its way past time for them to SHOW US some of this allegedly revamped art. Right now, its 100% smoke and mirrors.
The sense that I got on this and the MyUO question was that plans, once on the table under Mythic, have changed somewhat. Not scrapped, but priorities have been shifted, and/or personnel changes have affected the projects in a rather large way.

As far as the timers, wouldn't a more effective (and theoretically easier fix) be to just shorten these "1 day" timers to 20 hours instead of 24? Then if you happen to log in a little later one day, it still wouldn't throw off your next day.

I guess since we are talking crafting wishes I will bring up mine again. I would like to see resource gathering (ingots, boards) returned to a system where the average player can mine or lumberjack enough of what they need to fill bods, craft for friends, sell armor/weps etc. without a combat related mechanism involved such as covetous points in order to convert ingots or fighting the afks in blackthorns for gold ingots. I would like to be a miner again. I would like to be a lumberjack again. I would like a day when a miner/blacksmith can support himself.

Well there was a program that was out there where you could actually do building "outside" of UO. It was pretty neat and had all the housing tiles built into it.... This included a lot of tiles which are NOT in the current housing tile sets like the 1/2 and 1/4 castle wall pieces that make up the ramparts along the second floor of the castles and around each of the towers and center on the 3rd floor. These tiles have long been missing from housing so you can't really reproduce the effect when redesigning if we did it on test.

So an easy downloadable outside program we could use like the one Kurgon used to have available to us would be perfect in allowing us to redesign them.

Could we also redo the Keeps and then the BIG question I have regarding that would be I realize we wouldn't be changing the size of the Keep or Castle but would we need to keep the exact footprint? As in for the Castle could the center section be shoved back to the rear wall giving a much larger looking courtyard? Or does it need to keep the exact footprint?

And if we can redesign the keep keeping the footprint can we use the 3 empty spaces in the bottom floor? Can these be fixed so they are usable? I believe some time ago I posted some idea's for changing the keep to make it more "user friendly".

If we can get a tool that works, I don't see why a contest couldn't end in first, second, and third prizes for modified keeps and castles both. Keep the originals in the placement tool, and add all three new designs as alternates, priced accordingly.

I still think it would be uber super cool to be able to destroy the walls, and build new walls of different materials. Heck, build whole ranges of tilesets, or buy pieces from an architect. This is a sandbox game folks, more imagination may be required, or at least prove very useful.

We can already place stuff in courtyards. If we could do it like this I think you would have a lot of wildly happy players.

I was hoping for different footprints to work with. I do this I wont use that drab grey walls.

If there was to be a new taming skill, it would make sense to have it weapon based rather than spell/magery based. we already have mage/tamer, but maybe weapon based attacks or "spells" could be introduced that would be applicable more applicable to taming.

I dont think taming really needs new skills, just update to pets to make them more useable. Right now you have GD, dread, cu. maybe beetle/bake. everything else isnt great unless your very low skill.

Theron, I'm pretty sure Mesanna was trying to say there would be a new "skill gump." Unfortunately, she kind of paused right after the word "skill" and before she said "gump," so it was a tad bit confusing. I will try to listen to the video again and come up with the exact time when she said it and add that to this post later if I find it.

If the castle & keep became alterable, then I would ask for the active freedom with creation that comes with customizable housing plots. This I feel instead of finalized prefabricated design options from another persons aspect of beauty. Probably a good idea to maintain the current 2 story floor to roof maximum height for the purpose of avoiding game lag by potential 4 story tall 31x31 BORG cubes arising to conquer our lands.

The information below is for Kyronix and relates to my question about vendor fees. I have a small shop right next to the Zento moongate on one of those Asian shards that has a very, very small population. My shop is, as far as I can tell, the only shop on the shard selling most of these items. (There is another small shop selling a few power scrolls and a few artifacts. The owner for that shop, a very kind Korean player, is who gave me the ML minor artis to sell because I think he was also having trouble selling them at his shop in Luna.)

Below is a list of what I'm selling and their prices, in descending order by price. The only things that sell consistently are the spellbooks, empty rune books, BOD books, and scroll binders, and those at the rate of maybe 1 spellbook every other day and maybe 3 of the other items per week. The clothing bless deed and the PoF have been on a vendor for over a month now without selling. The +10 blacksmithing scroll has been on the vendor for maybe 6 months. I sell single LRC pieces very, very sporadically, maybe 1 or 2 pieces one week and nothing other weeks. Full LRC suits for 80k with decent mods and full resists also sell very sporadically, maybe 1 suit every 2 or 3 months, lately. Everything else just really doesn't sell at all, other than maybe a dye once every two months, a butcher's cleaver once every 3 months, a soulforge deed every 4 months. THP rents a vendor from me to sell holiday and anniversary items, cheap, and I don't think he's had a sale in the last 3 or 4 months, if even that.

I honestly just don't even know whether to bother with keeping the shop open. My whole intent with setting it up was to sell usable items to new and returning players at fairly low prices that were just enough to cover the cost of my time to get or buy materials to make the items or hunt for them. However, the sales have been so terribly slow I wonder if it would just make more sense at this point to mark everything as FREE and see what the heck happens and when everything is gone just close the darn shop, post on the shard's forum that I can provide starter items if someone wants them. Forget trying to be helpful with not only selling cheap usable stuff but also providing corrupted and crystal portals for people to use, a luck statue, lockpicking practice boxes, and dye tubs.

What would you do if you were in my shoes, Kyronix? I'd really like to know. I understand the concept of "supply and demand." However, trying to drum up more demand on a shard that has so few players, especially ones who need such lowly items, is pretty much out of my hands. Most "newcomers" to the shard are transferees from English-speaking shards using shard shields and toting along everything they could possibly need and then some. The population of active players who live in the country the shard was meant to serve also seem to have most everything they could possibly want as well.

So how do you price your items in this situation to make them appealing to an almost non-existent customer base of new/returning players in need of basic items, especially when you have the only shop on the shard selling such items? Would you drop the prices even further or just make the stuff free? Or would you even try to run a shop on a small, dead shard trying to provide some basic necessities to players who come back to play after years gone away or who get talked into playing by a friend or family member but don't have a lot of gold to buy things and don't want to spend RL money to buy gold on Atlantic and then transfer it back to the shard that is in your own local time zone? Honestly, would you even bother? I picked that shard to try the shop on because I saw a need there and figured I could help. Knew I wasn't going to get rich off it. But didn't quite figure it would be as absolutely dead as it's turned out to be.

Would you, and maybe @Tina Small, mind putting together a list of which timers you find most inconvenient and sending them over? If we have a targeted approach it'd be much less of a monstrous task then looking at everywhere timing is used. Then we can have a much better of idea what we can and cannot do. One unified timer is not technically possible unfortunately.
Dot and I touched bases on this tonight to get you a list.

This is a big factor to my game play. I use to do a lot of things daily but every day it gets pushed further and further away. If they even made them 23 hour cycles. Perhaps little by little change one at a time. Let them be surprises and then when they are all done, announce it :)
I haven't grown plants in quite a while, but weren't they always on a 23-hour timer? Or has that been changed? I used to make it a little earlier and earlier if I wanted.

City trade deals should be put on the same, or better yet, clicking the stone renews for another 24 hours regardless of the last time (provided there's an active trade deal).

I was hoping for different footprints to work with. I do this I wont use that drab grey walls.
I happen to like the castle stone walls..... What I don't like is all the wasted spaces. If the inner Bailey were back against the rear wall of the castle it would make the courtyard 2x the size.. I'd also remove the stairs in the tower and just keep the one stair in the inner bailey. I'd also put doors on the upper bailey's openings and such.... so it is more secure. This way you could let folk into the "castle" but block off all entrances to the outer walls and towers. I happen to like the stone. It might also look nice in the blue stone. Most of the Tokuno style walls are too thin. Personally I'd LOVE to have the castle in black brick like Blackthorns.

Might look nice with a few windows added to the inner Bailey as well. Perhaps windows into the courtyard from some of the long halls too.

I'm thinking I'll head up to the cottage this weekend for a week or two. The season is winding down here in Michigan. It's my happy place. It's a summer party town and I think I'll catch it's last hurah!

Unfortunately, she kind of paused right after the word "skill" and before she said "gump," so it was a tad bit confusing. I will try to listen to the video again and come up with the exact time when she said it and add that to this post later if I find it.
Thanks Tina, that would be great. Really curious about this.

If there was to be a new taming skill, it would make sense to have it weapon based rather than spell/magery based. we already have mage/tamer, but maybe weapon based attacks or "spells" could be introduced that would be applicable more applicable to taming.
I dont think taming really needs new skills, just update to pets to make them more useable. Right now you have GD, dread, cu. maybe beetle/bake. everything else isnt great unless your very low skill.
I was wondering about that. A new sort of skill for specific tamer spells/combat? Perhaps with a "Spellbook" like there was for Barding skills...and pretty much all combat/spell weaving skills. Maybe it is Pet Breathing like Tjalle mentioned earlier.

I was hoping it really wasn't a new skill, because that would mean my current and complete template needs reworking...maybe instead of a new skill I would really prefer to have updated pets as you suggested and a possible Tamer Spellbook would be enough.

Thanks Tina, I was doubting my memory with regard to a new "skill". Crafting and tamer love will make for some things worth looking forward to. :)

On another note, while they do not have a "Live" team, specifically. They have been running arc event stories, just not many of them. And, I doubt we will see anything more this year. But all the Minax invasion stuff was, is, an ongoing story, of sorts. We just need to convince folks that uniquely named items have no place in regular weekly story telling events, at least not in very limited numbers.
