Soulforges...how to...sorted

I'm a gargoyle in the holy city, in the weaponsmiths, standing next to the soulforges and when i try to unravel an item get the msg 'you need to be near a soulforge'
Any help please?

only one that works is in the royal city...also one of the smaller ones in the blacksmith shop works.
