Since we can't afford an expansion for UO kickstart a massive expansion for UO. Not only will it involve huge new content but will draw people back to the game. I'de easily shell out a cpl $100 for something like this. I do like the shards concept of owning your own shard and can travel between them. Maybe ill try shards online lol

I don't think it would meet its goal. Not many people are going to back a subscription based game.
Thats the beauty of it. The ones who do back it get the new content, the ones who don't will miss out. Nobody is forced to pay anything extra if they don't want.

Imagine a crowd funded expansion for UO. Maybe even some new lands with some new limited housing spots etc etc. Pledge say $20 for "early access". Once it has been out for maybe 6 months to 1 year it gets added into the game for everyone else.

Not to derail the thread, but that's kinda against the whole philosophy of kickstarter imo. UO has been published by the world biggest game company for nearly 20 years. It has an established monthly cash flow, doesn't need a leg up, and could afford to pay for its own expansion if it wanted to, with just it's own revenue even, not to mention the vast resources of is publisher...

Shards on the other hand IS what kickstarter is all about. A talented group of individuals needing funding from their audience that would otherwise be difficult or maybe impossible to acquire to provide independent creative content.

Having a lot of fun with the PvP portion, as well as some of the NPC Ai, to make them a bit more challenging through tactics like a player would be. That should allow some of the skills for PvE/PvM to translate to PvP and vice versa.

Not yets. While the actual steal portion is pretty easy to implement, the hard part is having proper recourse and implementing enforceable consequences, and counter thief capabilities.

Put them in the stocks in the public square and allow other players to mock, ridicule and throw vegetables at them for a set period of time...la

Just going to ask even if it seems silly to. How do the characters move? Mouse like UO or keys?
Oh and is this all pvp land?

Movement is that same as in UO.

The rulesets will vary. In the current test Shard, the beginning area (southern portion) is a more PvM area that is patrolled by guards that will guardkill you if they see you attack someone. Across the bridge to the north is the open/team PvP area where the guards do not roam.

Some shards will be non PvP, some will be pure open-PvP, then there will be the various iterations of rulesets that players who run their own Shard use.

I can't tell you how many games I would have tried if they had UO like movements

Let's see... a few more UO-style features (and improvements)...

- Armor has meaning again. Plate has the best protection, but sets your mana regen to almost zero. Cloth has the least physical protection but allows free regen of mana. Leather and other materials fall in-between. Think of the just-pre-AOS days of heavy and light archer suits and the like.

- Weapon sizes will have range attached to them so you can hit from father away with a halberd than you can a dagger.

- "Pre-casting" is the norm allowing you to cue up a spell and move to the needed location before you let it go. Improvements include a visible circle showing the spell's range from your character when the spell is ready and the 4 piece target cursor lights up each piece as the spell is cast showing the progress without adding in a casting progress bar.

- While the current test shard (Ueran) has a more pre-UO:R ruleset, when you die you keep your equipped items and drop the items you have in your backpack.

Don't forget the flying spaghetti monsters, you don't want the Pastafarians coming after you do you?

**Flying Spaghetti Monsters have not been mentioned as an included monster in the game. It's more of an inside joke.**
