Returning Vet - Mage/pvp questions

Have not played this game since 2003,
Finally I have the chance to return to sosaria! But I have a two questions....

1. What seems to be a solid Mage temp right now? For pvp of course..
2. Are all old artifacts now out of date? Anybody care to share what arties/suit I should be going for, If of course you have given me a mage temp. :)

(helpful links/tips/ETC are more than welcome)
