Pure Bard

[Barracoon The Piper]

My new character has the following skills:


120 provo
120 music
120 disco
120 peace
120 spellweaving (WOD, nature's, gift, attunement)
120 chivarly (to dispel revenant it's necessary 120)


The character now is working very well, of course with fc/fcr=4/7, but I see that it's useful only for group-game, while in lonely-game it'snt good (except in same places like cushide dungeon)


Suggestions to be powerful when I play alone?

to be honest i dont play my bard alone.

i only ever use him when the guild is going out to do something.

or to RP.

my bard TAMER i use alone.
my pure bard no.

not unless im gonna go somewhere that has a lot of the same mobs that i can provo onto each other.

but that low end farming lost its luster years ago.

Bard/Tamer ?

How can one be played really effectively ?

I mean, let's look at the skillset........

The max total allowed points is 720 which means 6 x 120 skills.

Now, for taming we have it as necessary to have :

- Taming
- Animal Lore
- Veterinary

They are all 3 necessary to control and heal the pet in combat.

But a Tamer also needs at the very least 80-90 magery to gate pets around...

then the Bard part......

- Musicianship
- Discordance

Oooops, we only have room left for only 30-40 more points.

What about Peacemaking and Provocation ??

Now, "if" a character could hold 8 skills than THAT would be a Bard/Tamer.......

- Animal Taming
- Animal Lore
- Veterinary
- Magery
- Musicianship
- Discordance
- Provocation
- Peacemaking

Unfortunately the total comes 960 points for all 8 skills. About 240 above the current cap.

40 Spellweave or Eval

That's 720 points.

Now, I've thought about stoning the 100 magery and going with 120 provoke instead. I would just have to rely on using recall scrolls in my rune books, but really I like having the ability to cast greater heal the same time as I bandage. You don't need to gate bonded pets, they follow when you recall. Just un-bonded need to be gated.

course you could change to 70 chiv and run with 40 med or chiv, that is all player dependant.

Mine is similar to Poo,
but slight differences:
105 lore
100 taming
90 Vet
90 mage
120 music
120 provo
95 peace
I got lucky and got the taming mark of the travesty, blessed it, and succeeded in finally getting an owned by no one taming Tally(after turning in scales for 6). I use the alchemist bauble for the lrc so i figured why go to gm when i get 10 mage there. With leftover points i had 95 so i worked peace. Hunted up a peacemaking ring with 10 peace and 16 lrc.
With 120 music 105 peace works pretty well, especially with exc flute or slayer.
With 120 lore, 115 taming (effectively), I control Greaters and my dread warhorse quite well, and tame nearly anything pretty easily since i can peace.
Pure, no.
Effective, well of course. I get time for about 1 Tokuno champ a day and average 2-4 minor drops per, and 1 in 3 champs i get a champ drop.
Also quite effective in Doom.
Luck is low (800's) but 450 from luck statue helps, and suit provides 9 mana regen.

find what you like and what you can play good and roll with it.

i usually allways make pure templates.
all skills to max and roll from there.

one day i made a toon who is totally 100% needs his suit to play
(hunters headress, stealing legs, ect ect ect)
and even though the toon is wicked fun to play, i find that because its not what im use to or what i like to play i rarelly use him.

lesson i guess is find what you like and roll with it.
even if that means having peace on a tamer (yuck!)

When I am giving out free greaters i have peace tamed, no one seems to mind my lousy "skillz".
Just wanted to offer some ideas on squeezing a competitive edge out of bards, as they get the shaft every pub and expansion.
I won't show my face here again to offend the pure bards.

i think im so tainted to peace from all the years of people pulling the pin on the area peace while im out hunting.

that gets annoying after like the 6,547th time.
specially the people who have it looped while they play their necro wither cannons.

Was there any sulking or crying?
Quite simply stated I didnt want to offend you or other pure bards who feel others just can't play as well as you, thus they mix their skills to more effect. Why else wouldn't they copy your templates exactly?
Perhaps to be different, or to not have to switch toons every other mob. And yes, in doom it is a godsend to keep critters off of you to have some peace to enable a quick invis.
Btw it seems a quick invis after area peace seems to lessen the timer for provo just a touch. I dont have a chronograph, just a 'feel' thing.
