Old pets (0 phys resist bug)

I recently returned to the game after a 16 year absence and recently discovered that my old pets all have zero physical resistance. This seems to be a known issue but the most recent thread i could find for it was:

Old Nightmare?

This was in 2008. Has there been any change since then? Is there a fix for it or are these pets little more than novelty items now?
