NPC's and escorts

Having returned to UO after a number of years and starting a thief again I remember taking escorts outside of the town limits and stealing from them. When I do that now all thier bags are empty - even though when I drop them off they wil give me money they don't seem to have any. Also - all the red wandering healers have nothing in their packs either. Does that change if I join the thief's guild??

I am not ready to start stealing from players yet but would like the extra cash

It's been so long since I've bothered with escorts, but I do seem to remember them having stuff in their packs at one point. It's possible they changed it along the way and I missed it.

If you're looking to make some quick cash while training, you could steal the semi-rares (arrow shafts, chisels, square tool kits, dried flowers) from town chests and sell them on a vendor. The market for them is usually pretty good (depending on your shard and the location of your vendor).
