Could someone explain this to me. I need to buy an item in luna that is 8.5 mil, but I can't deposit that much gold into my bank. So how do I buy the item?

You can buy anything with checks in your bank from player vendors. You need gold for NPC vendors.

If the price of what you're buying is 2k or more, you don't need gold for the NPC's either.
