I have always wondered why this skill or craft was not implemented into UO.

The Artist

Obtain Paint and Brush
Obtain Easle With canvas
Click Paints Target Easle
Option to Paint freestyle or portait

Creates...A Random Painting like we get fishing.
Skill levels...
" A painting" Just for skill
"A Master peace" For mor skill
"A Execptional Master Piece Painted By Artist"
For after you gm
Then you may paint Portiats of a player
"A painting of Player By Artist".
And you would have to gm or legendary Powerscroll Boost to paint others.

I always thought there should be an artisan skill. You could make things out of gold smelted down into bars. Statues, paintings, stuff like that.

I love the idea... would be nice if the painting looked like your character...

You would think they could somehow use your characters paperdoll somehow to accomplish this idea... I think it would be awesome... Perhaps they could remove taste ID or item ID or both and give us this instead.... I'd love to become an artist....

I think it could give crafters a reason for making an easel... And canvas could be something that can be crafted by a carpenter or tailor..... and come to think of it.... cooks can make the paints... Nice idea.

I still want to be able to embroider things in cloth and on leathers. I'd also like to be able to put designs on shields and things. Perhaps an artist can do tapestries and put crests on shields as well.

Just a thought.

Perhaps they could remove taste ID or item ID or both and give us this instead....

Why not just add the skill without removing others? It's not like there's a limit to how many skills they can code in, as evidenced by expansions. I have two characters with GM Item ID but you don't see me asking to remove Magery or something. Sheesh.

Back on topic, I like this idea. I've suggested a few times that a player-crafted painting be clickable, and open up to show a snapshot of the subject's paperdoll made at the time of the painting. I thought maybe shipwreck fish-ups could be used somehow - recycled canvas? - so Fishers are still in the loop with regard to paintings.

I would like to suggest pet portraits as well...everything from a miner's loyal packy to the grandest super dragon. The painting could have the pet's name in the description.

I don't like this part. The player should be able to pick which style of painting the result uses for a graphic (perhaps with a few random 'totally messed up, and your painting looks awful now' graphics for failures).

Some more thoughts based on what you all posted...

You could even hook in the Obsidion statue making into this i would supose.
Artist Engraving tool. we have em for everything else why not a signed painting...

this could also open up a market for craft makeing inregards to creating paint and brush,
and Artist inscribe pens...

Oooooo, that's it: the only way for an artist to create one of the large paintings would be to fish up an appropriately big portrait, bleach it, and then paint on that. Heehee!

Love this idea. Would be very cool to see implemented. Would add some further uniqueness to house decor.

Side Note The Toy tinker Makes A person Go "Paint".
What a Way to Gain and that system could be used.

And How about a Quest for these types of paintings as we get to keep them.

Artist collections? Eww what a wonderful way to get new special paints,(tokuno Dye maybe? hint hint)
(I sure hope some one who could make this happen is into it)
