Need a Build advise for PvM

So I have an old school swordsman. From what I read Plate mail is no longer a sad joke that is used for decoration.
Paladin/Samurai seems like a good combo? Do I go with a sword and shield or is bushido not compatible with shield?
Template suggestions?
Also where do I go to raise these skills and get some gold?

Paladin/Samurai is probably the most common template. No shield if your a Samurai, parry with your weapon.

New Haven were to start. You can buy your skills to 40 and do the quests to accelerate skill gains to 50. If you don't have enough gold to buy your skills. You can do escort missions every 5 minutes and they pay you 500gp an escort. I'd say kill the stuff in around New Haven till 60 to 70 in skills

Check out the guide DJad suggested. If you decide to take a weapon skill to 120 Maceing Power Scrolls are ten times cheaper than sword

Welcome back.

I would possibly suggest doing an archer before necessarily doing a swords/macer. I find many new players in my guild struggle when coming back to do a plain swords/paladin template before they re-learn the game again.
