what kind of items do you mean? Items such as clothing, furniture, weapons are most often marked with the crafter's name (as long as they are GM or higher).

What items, besides blue and red books, can be engraved with numbers like;
1, 2, 3, etc.?
I am looking for items that can be engraved with numbers that can be
carried inside a players backpack.

There are engraving tools that can be made by crafters who have Mondains legacy, they're for containers mostly

Leather container engraving tool is made by a tailor and can engrave bags
metal container engraving tool is made by a tinker and can engrave paragon and metal mib chests, probably the plain metal containers you can get from plague beasts too. Never tried it on a yellow strong box.
wooden container engraving tool can be made by carpenter, engraves boxes, chests etc
cake decorating tool, can be used on pizzas and cakes, not sure what else.
Spell book engraving tool, can be used on spell books. skill used, inscription.(this one was used for an exploit which I believe has now been fixed, only the most naive would have fallen for it though.)

They will only engrave containers though.
