Locking down containers - question

How do I lock down a container but not the items I put inside the container? I've been messing around with it but for some reason whenever I put an item in a container that's locked down, the item becomes locked down, too. I was at someone else's house recently and did not notice the behavior.

Never mind - I figured it out. I need to say, "I wish to secure this" instead of, "I wish to lock this down."

Geesh, what a newbie!
