Legends Group Therapy?

We seem to have a number of people who seem to be having some issues finding what place UO holds their lives. Perhaps the game has moved on, perhaps it hasn't moved enough. Perhaps life has moved on, perhaps it hasn't moved enough. For whatever reason, we have people playing who are unhappy and people not playing who haven't let go of the boards. We're a small community here on stratics, yet we manage to represent pretty much the entire gambit of playstyles and personalities.

Anyway, I myself haven pretty quiet around here lately, despite the fact (or perhaps because of the fact) that I've been logged on more often than I can remember. I've been keeping to myself, living in my own imagination save for the comforting sight of characters running past every now and then.

Although I've not been doing much UO-related writing, I've been getting my little group of characters to a sort of chapter-end of their lives. I tend to role-play that each month of real time is a year for my characters, so my main account characters are getting a little grey and even my youngest character is now 24 years older than when it started and no longer a mere student (most noticably, all members of the Myth and Peace Lords are now, in fact, lords). So now, I find myself trying to find closure on their individual stories (so that new stories can begin).

Just thought I'd share what's interesting me these days.

I don't play UO anymore but I, as you have noticed, like to keep abreast of whats going on IN legends. I have friends here that I like to see whats going on with them. I like to see if there may be events or whatnot that might tempt me to log in for awhile.

Some people just like to be a negative Nancey and make everyone else miserable. But I just ignore those morons. Well not totally, I'll reply back to them just to get there goat, but I NEVER let it bother me. Some people just dont know how to let go. :danceb::danceb:

Because of RL I have a bit of a problem logging in and stying in game...

Wrote out a VERY silly little piece, last week I think..it was therapy.

When things settle down in my brain, I will try again. For now just look around and you may see me (in one of my disguises) wandering around.

Well, as for peeps who aren't playing but still posting, I'll have to be quiet about that.
To quote Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday, "My hypocrisy goes only so far."

Or,

"Apparently, my hypocrisy knows no bounds."

Life has just been crazy, crazy. I was thinking things would be approaching a state of controlled chaos as summer approached. Alas, with three kids and the oldest heading into high school, and taking a leading role in a musical at the end of this summer the spinning vortex of "Aaarrgh" just keeps ramping up in terms of revolutions per second.

My accts remain open in hopes Viq can come out and play sometime in the near future.

Can't wait to hear what you have in the hopper there Maplestone.

For me I have been dealing with a lot lately causing my lack of time in game. Mainly money issues is what's keeping me from playing, but I'm also dealing with other things that's keeping me from having the drive to log in when my accout is active. For instance today I have to go to my grandfathers funeral :(, his suffering finally ended a few days ago after a 3 year battle with cancer. So my mind hasn't really been on the game as of lately, but I do frequent the boards to keep in touch with friends and such and keep track of what all is going on in my not so by choice absence.

I thought it was the winter blues keeping me from logging in much. THen I thought it was just the hectic spring keeping me from logging in much.
Now summer is around the corner and I log in even less.
I guess I have lost my drive for UO.
Could be all of the day to day mayhem that 5 teenage kids can cause.
Could be that my oldest is now a graduate and moved out.
Could be the stress the economy has put on my business.
All in all, I guess that what used to be a stress reliever has now turned into another stress maker.
Hopefully, with the SA content coming out soon, it will give me a reason to explore. There has been some who have sparked my interest with old skills and the novelty of their use.
To all my friends on Legends, I will return, when I sort myself out.

TS, my heart goes out to you. My mother died almost 2 years ago from cancer, too.

Wow!~ Tov, I am very sorry to hear about your Grandfather. I hope you find peace soon.

Money..we miss you and trust you to keep in touch on boards or email.

As for us, we started with some house remodeling, traveling to a graduation, vacation coming up and it just always seems busy! Even my UO fish tank died because I was not taking care of it.

I miss you guys..and if we dont keep together we have alot to lose. *sigh*

They better roll it on SA!

I was fortunate to be born into a very close knit family. I know the pain you are going thru from losing your grandfather. Time heals they say, it does lessen the hurt, and makes it tolerable. Just take care of yourself and those around you, and give it time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with ya Tov.

And Danse ;)

Money, hmmm, I had noticed there didnt seem to be as much humor in UO lately...:)
Now I know why!!

Shame on ya for the fishies cru, the very idea, vacations and rl and home remodeling taking precedence over UO?!?! What is the world coming to! *laughs* j/k
We all need our breaks, for various reasons and needs, main thing is we all remember each other and know that we have friends and aren't alone in our problems nor our joys.

Now let's go fishing...

*walks off singing "summertime summertime sum sum summertime"

I am finding release here...Artemis took me to where the cu are..I had only been once...someone took me a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago to see what they looked like when they were introduced.

Thank YOU Artemis for taking the time to show me how to enter the glade, and for the time we had there. I had a BLAST!

For the first time in many, many months, I lost myself to the game!:danceb:

i don't believe there is anything wrong with wanting to keep up on what my friends are doing. just because i choose not to play UO, shouldn't mean i dont get to stay in touch with the friends i made while playing.

i find it sad that some people would frown at this. (not that i'm taking is as such from you, Maplestone)

Oh UO alumni might sometimes sense a confused vibe off me too. I used to get all territorial during homecoming week in school with those alumni tromping around campus as if they owned the place without having to work and study any more. It was very odd the first time I went back after graduating and saw the same look in the eyes of young students when they saw me :)

I think there are several factors leading to what I would call the malaise of the game:
In Game:
We have been waiting for a very long time for new content in the game, the new SA client is once again the new hope for UO’s future, but it has been too long in coming. I certainly hope it succeeds, but every month that passes the UO community seems to shrink. To me the recent invasions involving the faction cities did not seem well developed. I do applaud the EM activities on the shards, but there is a clear need for deeper developed content.
The never ending or resolved exploits and dupes, The changes to trail accounts were a good start, but not enough, if time and effort was placed into properly investigating the scripting and duping it could be solved. Case in point, Europa Gold cloth, once very rare and hard to get, now seems to be for sale on every shard in abundance; perhaps because it is the same color as the new faction bandages, not really a game stopping issue, but one of the many issues.
External issues:
The economy is fast eroding the disposable funds people have for entertainment. This is a long term problem that UO will have. I am being forced to take 10 unpaid furlough days over the next 2 years, pay a larger junk of my insurance premiums and will not get my next two raises, so I will be losing about 6% of my income for the next 2 years before inflation (I am still doing better than many in this economy, and am grateful to have my job), this will force me to make some hard choices where I place my entertainment dollars.

These are just what I think are the top reasons why the mood is fairly pessimistic in UO.

Just a few thoughts...

I know what Maplestone means about the alumni :) And I am sure no one here has a problem with alumni posting and greeting and saying hi. As long as it's kept peaceful :p

And Thunder, yeah, I really have a gut feeling that we are soon gonna see houses falling again, as peeps have to make a decision, Do I Really Need 8 accts? or 10, or 6, or whatever...

Don't get me wrong, UO is the best entertainment value around, more bang for the buck. For less than the price of 3 packs of cigs, I can log in 24/7, all month long if I want to :blushing: But I do expect the multiple account holders to start taking a long hard look at things.

Personally, I wish they would turn the town invasions back on, just to give us a bit more to do. We could swap from spawns to invasions, back to spawns, it would be one more side trip we could make everyday in our game lives.
The EM events are good, people are enjoying them, for the most part. There's just not enough EM events or EMs to keep it moving constantly. But there again, I understand budget constraints.
After all, Idle Minds are grouchy minds, if we were kept busy then we wouldn't need to fuss on the boards :)

*heads off for coffee, needs to wake up*

*edited in*

I do hope that SA and the new client bring back those who have left, and are standing, waiting in the wings to see what it is and what happens with it. I don't see it bringing in a load of new players with no shelf presence.
But if it brought back, say... Sorcon, Blesh, RLs, the list is long, if it brought back half of the players, I think it would be safe to say it was a success.

I know what you mean :)

(I survived 17 rounds of layoffs over the last decade before my employer finally went into bankruptcy protection ... but when your walking down near-empty corridors of a dying campus and you know your boss is going to have to next choose between you and someone supporting a young family, it's hard to keep the competitive edge)

But at least I have more time to play UO :)

I always thought of UO as a money saver. Internet and 2 accounts about
$50 a month. Going out to the movies or drinking or even the casino your over 50 in one night. To bad they ruined pvp to the point where everyone quit. Used to take a long time to learn how to be good at pvp, now its a three button mash fest. And then it comes down to who has the nicest items. I wish UO would figure out if people want to mash buttons to pvp theres a much prettier game out with alot more people. In fact all the reasons why people still play UO are for the same reasons people hate WOW, quit trying to copy it. Get rid of the mob pvp skill and get back to the old skilled pvpers.........
Wish it would change soon cause I might be retire early in the next year and It would be nice to have a time waster that doesnt cost as much as my other hobbies. Unless I do open my own indoor paintball field and then wont really have the time for uo anyway........

HUGS AND KISSES>>>>>Since Lady Artemis has shown me the glade of the cu, I have recieved Lolo's Lute, Titans Leg, and a pretty pink scroll for Ninjitsu (all 3 were today)

I was able to pop the centuars twice with out help, the last time Lady Artemis got those critters to slink out of their hiding places and they brought re-enforcements.

I now have a favorite place to play for a while...and I have gained almost 10 skill points (from 80+ to almost 90) in swords.:danceb:

Thanks, DebconLady.
Glad to hear that your having a great time Danse. Just a bit more and you will GM swords!
At least with this thread, I know that I am not the only one who is just..... hmm..... In a UO blah mood?
Its not that I have lost interest in UO or legends (that will never happen with this great group!), its more of a "UO or go fishing... or sleep a bit... or check the posts..... hmm don't feel like it..... hmm don't have the time.... you get the idea.
Just wanna let you all know, that I appreciate everyone one of you! I couldn't think of a greater group of people in all of UO, even Legends Reds population is great bunch, even though they are murders :D.
