Deep within the Outer Rim territories, at the edge of the Kadok Regions, the planet Kalee is a drifting dichotomy of austere beauty. Encased by tropical foliage, the craggy profiles of canyons and cliffs stand harshly prominent in a sea of green and yellow. Rivers incise thick rainforests, their untouched waters flowing toward white-sanded beaches, and into the great waterways beyond. Points of interest include a behemoth of stone called Abesmi, located in the Jenuwaa Sea, and far to the south a frozen landmass called Grendaju, where a predatory species called the Karabbac roam, hunted by the militant Kaleesh.

The Kaleesh are a reptilian humanoid species, a race of intelligent bipedal hunter warriors with russet-colored scaly skin, pointed ears, and clawed hands and feet. Their society is largely tribal and polygamous; the males would traditionally have multiple wives and numerous offspring. Rarely showing their faces to offworlders, the Kaleesh wear unique masks covering most of their features, such as the thermal pits under their eyes (allowing them to see in the dark), their long nostrils, and protruding tusks along their jaws and chins. The masks, and their cloaks, are crafted from they karabbac they hunt.

A strong and proud species, The Kaleesh are also a deeply spiritual people. Many of their temples are devoted to their ancestor gods, the holiest of which is called Shrupak, and the Kaleesh believe that they themselves can ascend to divinity, following a life of accomplishment. Although divided into numerous tribes, all having their own separate laws, the Kaleesh as a whole share the ideal that war is their most essential and hallowed of practices, and that honor will be their guiding light. Though retribution is a common theme, rival tribes often put aside their differences, for the sake of uniting against a common enemy.
