Hag's Quest

Can anyone help me with the Hag quest? It asks for a cut red mushroom, I have tried to cut the mushroom with a dagger, a skinning knife and an axe but it just says, 'you cannot use a bladed weapon on that' or 'you cannot use an axe on that'. What am I doing wrong? Or is it a bug? Any help appreciated.

it should work. I usually cut the mushroom that's right outside the hag's ruin. Do you have circle of transparency on? That can cause all kinds of strange things.
