fetich quest

Okay so I'm doing the fetich quest where you go to the parbolough mines and kill quadavs to get the four fetich pieces (head, arms, torso, legs). I got 3 of them and couldn't get the other so some guy just gave it to me. I went to the guard to finish it and he says that I can't start another mission until I finish the one I'm on...anyone know what to do?

Did you trade the 4 pieces to him? You need to trade them and he will give you 1K gil. The quest is repeatable.

Oh you trade them? Well then I need to try that. Except when I click on him it immediately goes to him saying that I need to finish the quest. I'm not sure if it even gives me the option of trading. Oh yeah what lvl should I start partying at? I'm lvl 12 right now. Anxious to get away from the brown desert of Gustaberg too. It's driving me insane lol.

yeah, target him then pick trade from the menu. And for the other question, at 12 you could start looking for a group in Valkurn Dunes.

You can actually start to look for partys at around 9ish or so. Most partys try to stay withing a 3 level spread because there is a drop off of exp to ability at larger spreads. My suggestion would be to move on to Konschtat Highlands with your party flag up. The Highlands are the next zone for you and you will get better solo exp there. Make sure you change your home point so that if you die, you don't have to run all the way back there. Once you get to the Highlands, make sure you go to the Crag of Dem and get your tele crystal. Also, if you get the chance, go to La Thiene Plateau and go to the Crag of Holla and get your crystal there too. Once you have the crystal, a whm will be able to teleport you back to those areas. It's called a tele taxi. Depending on the whm, they will either tele you for free or charge you a nominal amount for the ride. If you're in a party though, the whm is just expected to take you.

Partys are usually in Valkrum Dunes until you hit lvl 20. Once you hit 20, you will usually move on to Qufim out of the city of Jeuno. While partying in the Dunes though, try to get a crab apron and a damselfly worm. You will be exping on the crabs and flys in the dunes and so these things should drop anyways. Just tell your party you need the items and they will usually let you lot on them. These are 2 out of the 3 items you will need for your sub job quest. The third item is off of ghouls and you will usually need higher level help to get it.

Once you hit 18, you hit decision time. You can either get your SJ and the start over again with a SJ or just try to make it to 20 and then go to Jeuno to try to get your Chocobo, then go back and start to level your SJ.

Well I completed the fetich quest and then joined a party in the dunes last night. Now I'm stuck lol. My party kinda ditched me and then I was just left to fend on my own. Should I stay at the dunes or should I head back to Bastok?

Depends on what happened. Do you have enough gear and such to last you or do you need to upgrade? If you're good, go back to the Highlands and solo with your flag up. If not, then you can still solo in the Highlands with the goal of getting back to town to get new gear. You can also try in Selbina, I think that there might be some stuff you can buy there.

I'm in the Dunes right now. I've gotten my SAM to lvl 19. Now that the moogles are in Selbina, I just ran to the town and sent a bunch of stuff to my mule. Other stuff, I sold to the NPC. I have only 1 mule and it's in Jeuno so I can buy gear and stuff from Jeuno with my mule and D-box it to my main. It's an easy way of getting gear upgrades without having to physically go back to a place with an AH and such.

An alternate party spot for the mid teen level is in Korroloka Tunnel. This zone is next to Zeruhn Mines from Bastok Mines. Great Exp there against worms. I got 4 levels there the other night, from 14-18. You will eventually have to go through this zone to get to Altep. When you go do this, an escort is highly recommended by someone who knows the zone or has a map. Take sneak and invis with you too.

I think I'll try leveling in the highlands and make my way back to Bastok. Do you think I could survive as a lvl 13 Monk? Also where is Selbina?

T

Yeah, you can make it back ok as a lvl 13 mnk. Just watch for the Gobs. They will sight aggro you. The Quadavs will aggro you too, so be careful. Also, make sure you check things before you fight them. You should be able to take on sheep and lizards fairly easily. Lizards can be dangerous with the poison and petrify tp moves. Personnally, I'd go after the saplings. Grain seeds usually sell pretty good for decent gil too.

As far as where Selbina is concerned, It is in the Dunes, in between the 2 beaches and across from the outpost. I don't think you've made it that far yet, but the next time you party there, you should be moving towards there to camp either at the cliffs or at the oasis. Going from the Highlands zone, you will have to run through a tunnel with seeker bats that will aggro you and then run across a decent amount of the zone to get there.

Oh well I actually already did that. I'm really far into the dunes. I'm in the area with the white bone beach. It's going to be hard to get to the highlands without dying lol.

Usually, there will be an accomidating higher level who will pass by to give you a raise or clear the bats for you. You are very close to Selbina. I carry stacks of sneak oils and prism powders with me at all times, even when I'm a job that can cast sneak and invis.

M

I didn't even know there was such a thing as sneak oils and prism powders. Also what's the difference between sneak and invisibility?

Some mobs detect by sight (like goblins). Some detect by sound (like bats). Sneak, or silent oils, let you run right past bats without them noticing you. Same for Invisible, or prism powder, for sight mobs. The tough part is remembering which agro to what.

Woah that's pretty deep for an mmorpg. I'll have to try and find those. Selbina is a city right?

Trish

Yep, a small city. You can see where it is on the Dunes map.

Actually, Selbina is a town. You won't have all the amenities that you get at the cities. Some mobs also agg to magic and some agg to low hp. The low hp agg is considered blood agg and some mobs can track you by your scent. So there is another spell called Deordorize that will help with that.

In all of my time playing, I have only used that spell to play around. I only cast it on smelly people. LOL

Deodorize does work. I know it's mostly a useless spell though. I haven't tested it yet, but supposedly, if you use the free warp taru in Whitegate, you will be able to use the pay warp taru if you cast Deodorize on yourself. Like I said, haven't tested it. A usage for Deodorize might be after weakness. Cast it on yourself while resting to get rid of weakness and when you do go into the red, you shouldn't get immediate agg from blood agg mobs. I haven't tested this either though, lol.

I didn't even buy it til I was 75. Well actually, I was killing gobbies and it dropped. I didn't even buy it. lol

Is it Irish Springs or Old Spice? (drum and symbol crash) No but seriously, that's kind of insane lol. How do you know which monster has which aggro? I'm going to have to suit up on this stuff before I head to Selbina. Are there any other "products" I should be aware of? Like anti-golem spray or something?

LOL...nah at this level all you need is those. Unless you find yourself poisoned often when soloing, in which case you could buy Antidotes to remove the poison. But I would wait til I'm about dead from poison (and not from a monster hitting me) before I'd use it to save gil.

M

Everything just costs so freakin much. Like at most antidotes and potions should cost about 30 each. I can't afford 200-500 gil each. Oh well what ever. I'm just gonna have to find a way to make money.

The meds that I carry with me are:

Poison Pots- to keep from being slept
Sneak Oils-for sneak
Prism Powders-for invis
Holy Water-for doom and curse
Antidotes-for poison
Echo Drops-for silence

I don't carry eye drops, but the rest of these I have on me at all times. Regardless of job. A lot of gil goes towards consumables. Just wait until you discover the joys of food.

Like Trish said though, you don't need to have any of this stuff until you get towards higher levels. I would suggest antidotes though. It may be pricey but when you start talking exp/hr. I'd much rather use up antidotes than spend all that time regaining exp and running back and forth to camp spots.

As far as making money is concerned. That is a never ending quest. I still need lots of it. lol.

Well if you have the water crystal, you could save money by making some, plus get some alchemy skill in the process.

One water crystal
One Distilled water (you can buy this anywhere for max 12 gil)
One San d'Orian Grape (buy from Raimbroy's in South Sandy)
One Wijnruit (it's a flower, and I probably misspelled it, buy at Auction House)

Or, they're about 300 gil from various NPCs.

How do you synthesize? Because I don't want to juts spend my time killing stuff because it gets old pretty fast, especially with Monks. Also can't you fish and mine?

Trish

When you "use" a crystal, you open a box where you add the ingredients. Like in my recipe above, you "use" a water crystal, then pick from your items; distilled water (1), Wijnruit (again spelling lol) (1) and San d'Orian Grape (1). Pick "ok" and your lil fella will squish it all around and either succeed (yay, a home-made antidote!) or fail, where you lose the crystal and possibly some of the other ingredients.

Yes, you can mine, harvest, log, fish (YOU can fish. Me? No thanks.), excavate, and when you get your license, chocobo dig. When you get bigger, you can go clamming. I used to harvest a lot for cooking supplies. A friend also harvested for clothcraft supplies. We'd just swap the stuff we didn't need to each other. I decided to do cooking to save myself (and my sushi-eating hubby) tons of gil. My cloth-crafting friend is looking to get rich (lol). Youngun has worked a bit of everything because she's addicted to ranged attack and needed to be able to make her own bolts.

So how do you find the ingredients for stuff? They were kinda just like "okay here's a crystal, now get to it!"

I don't know if I could handle finding all the supplies to make clothes and such and fishing just sounds kinda boring lol. I'll have to try them out.

I was thinking about being a ranger, how do you think a Galka ranger would do lol? I mean I guess I could just create another character that could be a ranger, but idk if I wanna pay the extra dollar.

Also how do sub-jobs even work? Do you get the skills and stats of two jobs or do you just get the stats of both and the skills of your main? I might become a monk/ranger...weird combo, but it could work.

Well personally I go to www.ffxiclopedia.org for recipes.

Ranger is expensive. See above, bolts bullets arrows all cost money.

Your subjob gives you the extra job abilities, spells, pet abilites or whatever that that job allows. If, say, you're a 30 RNG subbing NIN, you can do anything a 15 NIN (half of your level) can do. That's assuming, of course you have NIN leveled up to 15. This means you can have a weapon in each hand, cast shadows and other ninjitsu, and you get the job abilities of that level to, which for NIN would be things like Resist Bind, Subtle Blow, etc. Because I am usually a WHM75, I have BLM and SMN worked to at least 37 for subjob choices, and working on RDM.

Oh yeah ffxiclopedia! That place is so helpful. Have you ever made "Brain Stew"?

Well I made it to the highlands alive. Now I'm just roaming around killing stuff. I think I'll have to go with being a Warrior when I get my sub job...but who knows. Should I start trying out different jobs or should I stay as a Monk for awhile longer?

Oh and sorry this response is so late lol.

It's all up to you. It's not like you'll lose what ever progress you've already made.
