Factions on Other Shards

I have a factions newbie question. If I have characters on the same account, but on different shards, do they have to be in the same faction?

For example, on the same account could I have a TB character on Atlantic, and say a MIN character on Catskills?

I *think* it's possible, but I only ever testet it with chars on Drachenfels and Siege. Maybe siege is special in that way...

Yes it is possible.

I play all east coast and am different factions across shards.

i play on all shards and im in all 4 factions on my account.

its just per shard that you cant mix.

Any drawbacks of doing that? The only issue I can think of would be issues with shard transfers.

If you transfer you lose all guild/faction affiliation, so there are no issues.

Is there a cool down for transfers? Or can I transfer a char and the transfer right back to the 3 day wating period for changing the faction.

Seems like a waste of money.. but there are no transfer limitations that are normally in effect to my knowledge.
