Considering Returning

Hello,

I have not played the game since probably 2002-2003.

At the time I was a 7x GM Thief.

There was a multi shard guild called The Secret Society or S|S and I was actually the GM on Great Lakes for the guild at the time.

I had a blast playing the game and quit due to real life and then got into other games.

I just went through a several day process to get my account back and I am thinking of checking the game back out.

I had a few questions.
1. Are there any account resurrection options to temporarily revive and old account to check the game out?
2. Are there any expansions or anything I have to get?
3. Are thieves still fun/useful?
4. What has changed for thieves?
5. Is S|S still around in any form?
6. How is Great Lakes?
7. Anything else I should know?

Thanks for your time.

If you're patient enough, there is suppose to be a Return to Britannia event later this month so you can return for free for about a month.

Awesome. I have the patience and I have seen others post about this on the forums but with out already being May and nothing official online I thought maybe they changed their mind.

I'm a returning player too (since Jan of this year on a new account), so I'm catching up on all the changes. I play in Atlantic tho, so I'm not sure how Great Lakes is or the S|S guild. I know that right now Atlantic is pretty much the main shard, a lot of the other shards are empty enough where you can place 18x18's anywhere.

I haven't tried a thief yet, but I do know you can steal items from monsters. I think that's something new. You get balms and lotions you can wear as a buff. I haven't checked too much into it yet so I can't give details sorry. There's a new landmass called Ter Mur with the Abyss expansion and there's stealables in the dungeon there. The higher end stealables are still good prices, at least in my opinion. There's a website called Search UO that you can maybe look up things you remember to get an idea of pricing in game (ignore the buying stuff for cash thing tho).

High Seas is another new expansion that allows bigger boats with cannons, pirate hunting, and new fish and fish quests to get fish baits and fish scrolls (up to 120 fishing). The Abyss expansion is where Ter Mur is located. With that you'll be able to make new Gargoyle characters. The new skills with that are Mysticism (a spell type skill where the most useful spells are cleansing winds which cure, heal, and removes curses all in one go and you can also create a Rising Colossus that's a pretty tough summon), Imbuing (lets you add properties to weapons and armor such as making suits all 70's in resistance and having lower mana cost or lower regent cost. Plus you can make jewelry to increase damage or hit chance and more), and Throwing (like archery but with thrown blades).

If you want you can try a 14 day free trial for a new account. That's on the UO.com website on the right hand side for a link to make a new account. After the 14 days you can activate it (only if you want to) by buying game time through Origin (link below) where it's like a game time card for 1, 3 or 6 months. Or you can activate it through your account page. The account page is probably where you'll be going to activate an old account too. I lost all my old passwords so I haven't activated an old account so I can't help with info on that sorry.

Here's some links that might help to check things out:

https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/browse?q=ultima%20online (This is where you can buy expansions or items from UO. The original link is on the UO website, the on the right hand side is an Origin logo link)

Well, hopefully somewhere in all that was something that helped you :) Welcome back to UO if you do return!! Since I've come back I've noticed there's been a lot of other players returning too, so it's pretty nice. Plus there's more awareness of the game through Steam (news article on uo website main page), which is something that's happened just recently.

Take care! :)

Thank you for all of the info.

I do not want to do a trial account, because unless things changed a 7x GM Thief took forever to level lol.

However, I keep hearing that there is suppose to be a return to Britannia this month so I will see how that goes.

Is it true that all of the servers are dead accept for Atlantic?

I wouldn't say dead but a lot less players than back when you quit. I also quit back in 2003 and took 8 years off. It is a big change from what we were used to back then. You can make armor how you want it and then imbue it with certain stats and skills. It takes a lot of gold to buy anything. When I came back I had 3 mil in the bank and i felt rich, then I went to buy my first thing and there were items for 100 mil gp. The game is a blast though and do to the smaller communities it is more friendly. Atlantic is by far the largest shard, then probably GL. GL has a lot of pvp on it as does atl. After those you have a few that are close. LS, pacific, Baja, Chessie, and Europa are all close to the same. I would say that Ls has around 3 to 400 somewhat active players with several good guilds. I play ls by the way. Any other questions please feel free to ask. Sorry for the rambling post but I'm typing this on my phone.
