Chesapeake Remembers September 11

Just as every year since 2002, I will be holding a quiet memorial at the Shrine of Sacrifice in Trammel at 8 pm EST on Friday, Sept 11.

Speak if you wish to reflect or remember, or observe in your own manner as you like on this somber occasion, there is no set program or schedule. In the past, there have been visitors for up to 2 hours but come or go as you please.

It's customary to bring a candle or torch in hand.

Yesterday's remembrance was a somber but heartfelt occasion. I was glad to see a good number of people come to share their memories of that day, offer assurances or remember the event in quiet reflection. In many ways, it transcended our game world and felt more like people sitting around a flickering campfire with faces just visible and voices being shared across the quiet night.

I got the impression it was less mourning of loss at this remembrance and more of a quiet affirmation of life, hope and the will to keep pushing ahead.

Even though the tragic event moves further into the ages of years gone by and nothing can diminish the horror of that day, the triumph of the human spirit is ever more apparent with each passing anniversary, indeed each and every day.

Although the EM's did not manifest themselves(perhaps as to not disturb?), they helped mark the occasion with a inspiring lantern and floral arrangement. A sincere thank you, sirs.

Many people came and went through the remembrance. Some spoke at length, some stood quietly, all came together to remember in their own way.
